Hello! I am a student in the USA and we are doing a school report on foreign countries.

I am looking for feedback from real people who live (or have lived) in Malaysia. These are my questions:
1. Is Malaysia an impoverished country? Are there certain things (healthcare, school, etc) that Malaysia needs?
2. How is Malaysia's economy? Does Malaysia have any big businesses? Is the economy growing or shrinking?
3. Are you affected by the fighting and turmoil in the Middle East?

Thank you! I will read every response.

Wrong section i guess. And you need to make a proper poll or attach your poll websites. Reported to mods for further action.

Sorry, it looked like it was in the right section! I would have made a poll but these aren't simple "yes or no" questions...

1. No. Msia is a developing country. Any country will need more advancement in terms of healthcare, education, technology etc.
2. Looks like fine but due to government policy and media control, normal layman will not be able to tell if the country is really doing fine or the politician is telling everybody that the economy is growing significantly.
3. Not much effect. Students sent to Middle East and some investments was affected but all seems well.

Wow, students from USA knows about lowyat forum, not bad eh cool2.gif

1. Is Malaysia an impoverished country? Are there certain things (healthcare, school, etc) that Malaysia needs?
So far, Malaysia is a good country and in terms of improvements we still have more space that need to fill up and i believe it is applicable to most of the
Western country and also Asian. In terms of healthcare bla bla bla... we do have everything or facilities so to speak.

2. How is Malaysia's economy? Does Malaysia have any big businesses? Is the economy growing or shrinking?
Malaysia economy is still maintain at its level and reports shown that our economy is still growing though its at slow rate. This is due to our "open policy" concept
to attract more foreign investment into Malaysia. Malaysia won the top 10 spot for "Top 10 place to retire in the world" and also "Top 10 best shopping mall in
the world - which is One Utama"

3. Are you affected by the fighting and turmoil in the Middle East?
Malaysia do not affected by middle east crisis because our source of investment / revenue does not come only from Middle East, but also from other country.
FYI: there are many middle east students who came to Malaysia to further their study in Islam, as Malaysia is known peaceful Islam country over the region.

Good luck in your finding dude biggrin.gif

If you have a poll, I can't wait to fill up your poll thumbup.gif

Do a questionnaire by using google form, each questions use 1 - 5 rating (likert scale), then you can do some simple statistics from it tongue.gif

Sup man! Which state are you from exactly if you don't mind me asking? I hope you and your family are doing alright despite the economy being bad over there.

1) Malaysia is not an impoverished country. We have abundant natural resources like oil & gas, timber, tin etc. However, the corruption in our government is pretty bad and as such, it has led to the mismanagement of the said resources. Instead of channeling the money generated by the resources into the development of our country (some did go to this but it's not enough), most leaders channel the money into their own pockets.

Healthcare is pretty alright in Malaysia. We have a national healthcare system, medicine and consultations are heavily subsidized, which is excellent, so much so that even the poorest of people can still get treated without having their backs broken by the cost (your country could learn a thing or two from us in this area).

What we need?..Hmm
- better public transportation.
- better education system (+sexual education).
- better unity.
- better transparency when it comes to the government (to curb corruption).
- lower crime rates.
- a truly secular government (currently religion still has a role to play in governance and policy making).
- MORE! (but I can't think of what they are right now, these will suffice for now)

2) Malaysia's economy is alright I think, but it could be better. The biggest business we have, I think, is the export of oil & gas. From what I've read recently the economy is stagnant, it's going nowhere - like I said, it could and should be better!

3) Not really. There's a slight increase of Islamic fervor among the Muslims, but that's pretty much it.

Good luck with your report!
