The Suzumiya Haruhi anime is not meant to be 100% comedy from the first episode till the last. There will be no constant display of mindless hilarious situations. Episode 3 happens to be one of the more serious episodes.

From what I heard from other forum members, there are pretty serious parts in the novels. According to them, there will be:

The question is how much of the novels' elements will be brought over to the anime and how much sanitizing was done during the transition. At the very least, there will be drama and maybe some fighting.

Loved this episode as much as the second screening (ep01). Good dialogues all around.

The creators are definitely drinking piss when they included that RPG scene. =\

Ah..well. All for the laughs.

The Mikuru vector trace is a bit rough. Curved lines are angular due to using of the pen tool in a straight line (especially on the hair and eyes). You should use the curve path feature of the pen tool to produce a smoother curve. Alternatively, plotting a lot of anchor points to simulate curves is a viable method but takes longer time to execute.

Outlines are inconsistent in thickness resulting in thin / thick outlines.

Despite the angular curves in the raw image due to the art style, vectors are characterized by smooth curves with a somewhat consistent thickness and clean image (not a problem in this department). Playing around with smooth curves is a better option rather than following the raw image 100%.

Sample: 01 (vectored scan) | 02 (vectored screenshot) (credit goes to Chibikko and Reid respectively for the vector works)

When resized to fit a 1600x1200 canvas, the resulting image is as below:

If Suzumiya mentioned episode 14, and the first screening is episode 0, there should be 15 screenings in total. Either that, or will there be 1 episode omitted.
