Hi all..just got my HotS today. When ready to install, it shows the setup bar to download 11GB data @@ yesterday was wait for WOL update with 4GB and today need wait for 11GB again. Pissed off man! Anyone facing it too?

i also don't know what is wrong with blizzard why do we need to DL anymore since there is already a DVD with everything inside...

I think it's because the contents in DVD is not up to date. Maybe they already printed the DVD a month ago. As Blizzard is making changes to the game every week, no choice but to wait for the download..

I think the total 11GB is including the installation from DVD. Maybe DVD 6-8GB, the rest the download for updates. That means total time of installation for Unifi 5Mbps would be 1-2 hours. Correct me if I'm wrong.. hehe

if digital u hv to download all 11GB. If DVD, only 3-4GB from the internet.
Pure 11GB download from a 5Mbps Unifi would take about 5-6 hours.
Better use DVD..

Another theory is that the 11GB is the total size after decompression of the source file.

The compressed file would be only 4-5GB...

Hahaa just now i open WOL.. the main page was totally change to HotS and can build new units such as Hellbat..hmm but i havent download complete..maybe the time i activated the game key then it already unlock the new unit for me? Just when i want to play HotS campaign..it need streaming..perhaps the 11GB things is for campaign? I'm not sure too hahaa..lets see how

lol, just received my cd key from heavyarm, entered the key, downloaded 4gb and i can straight away play edi...

Hurm dont think the file is that big. I got my copy this afternoon, left it for install for maybe around 30 minutes and can play already, Unifi 5mb user, dont think 4gb download would finish in 30 minutes. But I always check and let the launcher update if there is any before the game release. Also check prior to starting the game there is no background download whatsoever.

Edit : I installed using the disc via setup menu of course

my file is 4gb because im downloading the whole thing digitally (no dvd).

4gb should be the size for the whole Heart of the swarm.

I assume those who had 11gb update are those who do not have wings of liberty INSTALLED prior to the installation of HotS.

I already installed WOL in pc before purchasing HotS. Maybe as soul_fly9900 say always need to check and let the laucher update for new data patch.

Currently have 2 laucher now which is:

- WOL (Downloading previous remaining patch....)



- HoTs ( Installing and downloading BIG data lol...)



just FYI..for those slow connection and wish to play asap..you can go to laucher option -> Download preferences and tick the first one. This allow you able to play but some game data part may need stream during gaming. So...depends on player la hahaa..i choose to wait slow laaaa 1 mbps gonna change to unifi!!

Well, patch 2.0.5 of WoL is bout 1GB for me, but then I hadn't played since November I think. Then the preload is another 5GB and the post-HotS patch is another 50 or so MB.

Maybe the CD contain base WoL installation file only?

No. Up-to-date means you have to update WOL yesterday night. I left my launcher updating yesterday night. Today I upgrade to HOTS just 30 mins using the DVD..

I dunno why everytime have to manually download ....2xxmb....

Yes this is what happen to me as well. No big download whatsoever after using the disc to install the game, 30 minutes finished.

Another thing to note is that did you guys update the original game before this. Wings of Liberty had a big update recently 4-5gb if not mistaken, maybe bigger. Problem with the update is that it doesnt show on your progress screen like the optimization update, its kind of hidden and you guys need to check it from the download option instead. So what most people did is that when the progress bar shows the optimization update is complete they closed the launcher because did not notice this. I myself only found about this after reading here in this forum.

currently dl the 4gb patch for WOL since last night till now...1mb connection only lol

Hey guys, just to inform after i completely updated the WOL yesterday whole night.. it straight can play HOTS dy lol so what's the HOTS DVD for? Didn't use it also just use the DVD key i think if use the HOTS DVD, it will reinstall and redownload the complete game..perhaps WOL+HOTS lol..thats why i was shocked when see 11GB big file need to download when using HOTS DVD to install...after reconsidering i was stop download on that and wait WOL fully updated...and now can straight play HOTS dy nice experience lol

Yeah, but in reality if a person has an up-to-date WOL, the installation takes only 30 mins from the HOTS DVD, including the downloads..

yeah, i guess that's because they didn't dload the latest WOL updates...

hots is 6gb though if wol 2.0.5 is fully updated.

Hi bro, this is what i faced too. Just ignored the DVD..no need use it. Just go to your battlenet accout add the HoTS game key and COMPLETELY FINISH update your WOL and you are ready to play HotS.

Bro, i didnt use the Hots DVD at all. What i have done is add Hots game key in my battlenet and Fully update my WOL. Then can play dy I have no idea what's the Hots DVD use for @@

i reinstall WOL from disc (first batch), then got a 80mb update..

then the giant 7.5gb update came... as far as i can observe, minimal data was used from the HOTS disc...

however i was able to play after the "setup" portion for the patch was downloaded...

only when i load mission i can see a little icon on the top say "game data being downloaded".. usually a few seconds...

is it me or the video quality in campaign is so bad. need to buffering somemore :L

those videos played when u playing the campaign...
bad here refer to the video quality, it's not HD(720p nor 1080p) looks like 360p only. graphics look kinda blur, color faded.

oh do you mean those that are rendered in game via the game engine?
i.e. there is a loading screen and loading bar at the bottom before those videos begin playing?

those are dependent on your graphic settings one.

yes, there is a loading bar for the video, so i guess the video is at their server, we cant watch without internet connection?

im using HD4850, and the settings was ultra when i playing wol, din't check after hots was installed.

since the video is streaming, so the GC not affect much? my HD4850 can view m2ts lossless bluray with no problem. i guess it's depends on your internet connection? if u using high speed, say 4mbps then it might give u 720p, since im using 1mbps, so i got non-so-good quality just a guess..

hmmm i think i got it wrong.
i checked it out just now via the archives menu.

the video macam loads instantly also after i am inside the campaign menu.
it looks like it is recorded video instead, not rendered real time.

i.e. the cinematic was made using in game engine but they record it first.
or it was recorded in our hard disk when we first played it?

me too, the video quality just Ok only. I think that was recorded in our hard disk one during we download the BIG update patch perhaps?

Mine is ok. and mine is a GTX 260 only. I think you all have to reset the settings manually. Cos by default its lousy.

As far as I know, as it was in WoL, single-player cutscenes are rendered in real time, not recorded video.

There is an option in the video settings to change cutscene quality.

with just HD4850, dont ever put 'Ultra' on the graphic. Recommended to switch that to 'Medium' to get at least 100fps. Even 'High' will drop your fps a lot.

So GTX 260 out performs HD4850?

even im using GTX560 TI also get got slightlyy little bit lag in ultra during campaign @@

during the auto save games period, my fps after that for like 30 seconds will drop super a lot for some reason.

Crash a lot of time also while playing campaign but luckily got Continue button.

And i realize u can play offline mode also

How's the game crash for you?

Mine like the screen freeze with nothing move but the background music and those talking still on-going, so I alt + Tab to jump back to desktop and return to game and it does the trick of resume the gameplay again.

me also have the same problem .. fast fast press f10 and then alt tab to windows and switch back to the game

For those having lag just set models to Low instead of keeping at high.

Finally finish HotS campaign how about you all?

halfway. i think finished 13 - 15 missions.
last mission was enemy within aka aliens starcraft style

now the 2 mission "planets" are:
- storm some research facility
- find some important space ship

i went to the "research facility" one and saw a familiar face.
thought he was dead though.

Hahaa yeaa that guy haven't dead..i also surprise lol..keep it up bro hahaa..really have fun with the campaign! Wonder when blizzard will work on Legacy of the void..perhaps need wait for another 2 years i think zeratul will be the main character on that. WOL - Jim Raynor, HOTS - Sarah Kerrigan, LOTV - Zeratul.. lol..
