It's BBXiong  tongue.gif

Oh sorry! My mistake. Thanks BBXiong.

Still no logging into Waze server today. There are other N9/N900 users having the same problem in maemo.org. It looks like our unofficial Waze client has been blocked or rendered inoperative.

No os updates, no bug fixes, almost no new apps and even existing apps can stop working. Just lost all my SMS messages due to a known os bug. What am I doing here? Time for a Galaxy S4?

Waze is working again for N9. As for open source improvement I don't see how as the Harmattan os is not open source. All we can hope for is to install Jolla in future.

Petition by N9 owners

hey guys(and gals!), was surfing some coupon/deal sites..and stumbled upon this... Nokia N9 @ RM699!! ..anyone getting their 2nd/3rd unit? laugh.gif

It's cheap but remember you will be buying a device with no more os improvements, no more bug fixes and almost no more new apps. But Nokia offline maps are quite good and you get turn by turn navigation for most parts of the world. If you already have an N9 no point getting another set. If you are getting for someone who appreciates a good os and doesn't need the latest, go for it.

R.I.P to my Nokia N9...Phone automatically turning off when sim card is inserted..damnn sad.gif

Did you try another SIM card or do a soft reset followed by a hard reset? If everything fails your SIM card holder may be damaged which can be repaired by Nokia Care. Don't give up on this classic so easily!

Yes it is unfortunate that our N9 os is frozen and will no longer be improved. Apps are also stagnant although there may be a few produced by the community from time to time. However I've just returned from a trip of 4 cities in Europe and my N9 shines with the Nokia offline maps. The ability to do everything offline including search, plot a walking route and rotate the map to the direction you are facing is outstanding. Even my traveling companions with their Android phones surrendered to me. My N9 became the main device to navigate our way in Paris, London, Brussels and Amsterdam.

Try to turn it on while it is on the charger. Maybe not enough power to boot up.

Guys, I've been trying to register my wazapp for like the 4th time now but I didn't get the message for the verification code. Is there anything that I need to do before registering my whatsapp client?
*
It's not easy to get the registration code through wazapp as it is an unofficial client which Whatsapp tries to block. Most N9 users use Bluestacks Android emulator on their PC to register via the official Android Whatsapp. I can't advise much as I don't use wazapp but you can get some info from this forum:

Anybody done a N9 battery replacement before? Which Nokia Care in Klang Valley is better? How much does it cost and can they do it on the spot?

I just did it few days back - RM185. Nokia Care tech said have motherboard prob cos battery drain fast when he test with new  battery. ask if I want to send to KL to check, I said takda boleh. It'll be a month bf I get it back if send KL.

I asked the clerk abt prices of other repairs - RM300+ for motherboard, RM599 for screen, RM110 for the small door 4 usb charging

Thanks eaglehelang. RM185 for battery replacement is rather high but no choice as it is a captive market. RM110 for a small flap of plastic is really obscene. My next phone is going to have removable battery but I intend to use my N9 for another year at least.

Jolla definitely, even i wanted to get myself note2.. but nay....
Yea, N9 not doing very well for whatapps because not support by the official. Can use 3 days bug 2 days... Really sick & tired for chasing the maemo forum to look for clue for the latest patches. After getting 808, my 950 was sitting there collecting dust lol

Jolla's Sailfish will have very few apps, probably even worse than N9. At least N9 sold a few million units but how many can Jolla sell? I expect only a few hundred thousands to geeks. Although Jolla claims Android compatibility it will work only for the simplest apps as Jolla uses the same technology as BB10 and we know how that has turned out.

Ya, very leceh. The Nokia authorised dealer dont want to do, must send Nokia Care. Next time, for sure I go back to removable battery. I now understand why a lot of people dont want to replace the door, might as well buy on ebay & fix it ourself.

Btw, do you know if hard reset the phone will reduce battery drain ? It drains more even with new battery compared to when new.  Nokia Care tech said motherboard have prob but I dont think so & dont want send KL, in case my N9 come back damaged
*
It's worth a try as the problem could be software and you have nothing to lose. If it doesn't solve the problem then at least you have eliminated one possibility and can send it in for motherboard change. RM300+ for motherboard change is still worth doing.

My N9 is still my mobile phone of choice. I don't use Whatsapp so I don't miss it. I'll keep on using my N9 as long as it works. When it conks out (hopefully not for another year) I may switch to a S4. Multitasking apps in Android is a pain compared to MeeGo. Fully offline Nokia maps is still unbeatable and the N9 has a very good music player which is very important to me. I'm not planning to switch to Jolla as I know there will be very few apps for it.

Not sure about the Nokia X-series. It might have offline maps. who knows. N9 is the masterpiece of all the future Nokia phone design. Look at all the lumia phone now. All basically design like N9  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Nokia X series is very low end. It runs a forked version of Android and can only run 75% of the apps in Google store. The UI is also very ugly. Best to stay away from it if you are looking for an Android phone.

Guys, I've moved on from N9 to a Sony Z2. Sad, but no choice. MeeGo os and apps are frozen in time. I need reliable Whatsapp and other IM apps. Still keep my N9 for Nokia offline navigation. That part is still good.
