The Seagate at Senai is due to complete on Feb 2008. I was working as a project engineer under main contractor at this site and all the facilities here are new but I worrying about the quality of the building.  biggrin.gif

True. The top management were initially considering whether to open one in Kulim or Tmn Teknologi Johor. Eventually they chosed the later cos the water rate in Johor is cheaper than Kedah. I guess they must be using a lot of water for their media plating line. Another reason being that they want to reduce the logistic lead time to Singapore - one of their distribution centre I heard

I thought Seagate Penang is doing HGA ? The slider bussiness still there although they're talking of obsoleting in a few years ago.

It's still hard to predict or determine when it will go obsolete.

It depends on how fast solid state technology captures market interest and reaches an economic affordability level.

Penang plant only do sliders, HGA is in Thailand. Don't worry, HDD won't go obsolete so fast due to the price/gigabyte is still low for HDD compared to SSD.

It's very subjective to judge whether Penang Seagate is good or not since it really depends on who's your boss & colleagues. One thing for sure is you got to be ready to work during weekend (of course they'll pay you OT). They monitor the yield by shift 24 hrs/day. Technician will trigger the engineers & managers if out of control.
