QUOTE(laparcute @ Mar 9 2013, 01:52 PM) congrats to both of you Thanks for the advise.i dont have much pantang during my early pregnancies. anyway, ask your wife to take folic acid religiously during her 1st trimester, i.e 12 weeks. usually i will stand by with crackers because at this point of time, i always feel nausea etc so eating at small portion frequently kinda help. take care |

QUOTE(ghwong @ Mar 11 2013, 11:04 AM) If you got all the pantang larang... all food that are cold are not advisable.. Thanks for the advise.Folic acid and milk definately will help.. My wife only take folic acid and drink milk as during early stage of pregnancy her morning sickness is quite severe.. But do need to keep track of the weight. my wife kena scold by nurse a couple of time as she gain weight too fast.. hehe.. Anyway congratulation and welcome to club.. So far she is taking folic acid and low-fat milk and touch-wood, she does not have morning sickness yet. |

QUOTE(Dagashi @ Mar 11 2013, 12:48 PM) Congrats!! Thanks for the advisedon't take unripe - green papaya during whole pregnancy. Green or unripe papayas have a property which may cause uterine contractions. If you have had some alcohol, etc, before 5 weeks, it should be okay and will not affect the fetus much. but of course now that you know.. don't take anymore alcohol. or smoke. Basically the normal pantang advise is .. not so much cold, "cooling" stuff and herbal things like ginseng, etc. Banana/ watermelon, got "wind" so also cannot eat. If can afford.. lots of birds nest. Physicians advice: Don't take to much sugar, or high carbs. or eat for two. Currently at the first trimester your body only requires about 100- 200 extra calories. that's like a roti canai. Doctors advice: don't eat raw foods (washed salads and fruits are okay). Avoid raw fish, raw or undercooked meats, raw eggs. etc. This is to prevent food poisoning and salmonella, etc. Don't skip meals. Take a light breakfast, have a fruit in between, light lunch, some yogurt or snack for tea time. then dinner. If you maintain a balanced diet of lots of veges and some meat(that contain your Vits and Calcium and protein) you don't even need to take supplements. Check out foods that are high in folic acid, calcium, magnesium, and vit Bs. Don't forget about the Vit C's as well as the mother's immune system is lower and therefore more prone to getting sick. Also when pregnant can't simply take medicine. Only can take certain medication. Like pure paracetamol or zrytec (anti histamine). So keep a good diet, exercise often (go for walks and swims) to prevent getting flus, fevers and food poisoning. Although most sicknesses do not affect the baby unless it's a super high fever or something.. it's quite suffering for the mother to be sick. |

QUOTE(vandoren @ Mar 11 2013, 12:50 PM) hihi, i'm entering 8th month and this is my experience... Thanks for the advisei was suffering morning sickness during 1st trimester, doctor's advice is eat what ever you want. i eat lot's of fruit and vegetable, to reduce difficulty of poop >.< referring to above post, i do eat banana, but not during 1st trimester, because since it easily get "wind", it tend to make my morning sickness worse... after 1st trimester till now, i'm drinking half glass of milk every morning together with fish oil capsule (brand: neurograin), calsium tablet and ferum tablet given by doctor. i'm still continue taking lot's of fruit and vegetable and my baby's weight gain is normal. For me, I gain weight 8KG in 8 months =) some ppl said don't eat pineapple, or sushi... but sometimes, i still eat... |
