1. Brand - ANY

2. Budget - as low as possible...perhaps less than 500?

3. Specs - able to run basic everyday apps like WAZE

4. Type/Size - the bigger the better as it is for old man...

this phone for my 60yo dad who just gonna transition to smartphone...

i am inclined to XiaoMi because of its hooha when it came.. Also, the fact im a supporter of the emerging Chinese producers..... I believe it is a strong brand and it is also known for being good value for money (?). havent really played much with 1 before so mayb good time to have a family member get 1..

having said that, i am still opened to other options, as long as it is value for money. and have a good trackrecord with its durability/boasted performance/specs. hehe

thanks sifus! have been living under the APPLE shell so haven't been following much with latest phones!

oh btw, he mentioned about Samsung Galaxy J1 ? is it any good? im thinking some1 mustve pitched to him...

You can buy a lot of 5.5" real cheap.

I think Huawei Honor 4X is RM 6xx. Should be a good fit.

Cheaper than RM500, maybe the Honor 3...but i think screen is smaller.

Galaxy J1??? Please...

It's even worst than ancient Galaxy S2.

hahhaa.. lucky he didnt buy it. some shop must be pitching it to him and without doing any homework he told me Samsung should be ok and fits his budget so Galaxy J1 should be suitable  yawn.gif  god...... the way how some ppl make a purchase decision  thumbup.gif

i prefer the XiaoMi actually.. any reason why u chose Huawei over XiaoMi?

any other alternatives i got?

The current range of Huawei/Honor has very good specs for the price. Xiaomi not much option i think. The bigger (5.7") screen is only the Mi Note which is RM 1549. Way over your budget. There is a RedMi Note which is much cheaper about RM500 with a 5.5" screen. But my friend said sold out, i am not sure. He just bought an Honor 4X for his dad recently.

Note that Honor is sell as the budget brand and Huawei is the more expensive brand. For XiaoMi, Redmi is the budget brand.

Myself currently using Huawei Mate 7 and a secondary Xiaomi Mi3.

If your budget really cannot exceed RM500, take the Honor 3. It still kills that J1 ...2GB RAM, 4.7" screen, just better in everything!!! And around same price i believe. Pls dun buy Samseng ever...i have sold most of the Samseng in my house already.

hahaha sameseng!! ok, thats what i tot also... but what do u think about the Redmi2 2GB? @ RM459

http://www.mi.com/my/redmi2/ - really keen with this 1 atm. hehe.

yea i know the specs sometimes speaks very loud but when comes to performing, i understand that sometimes the phone higher spec form still loses to a lower spec phone.. i guess could be something about how the whole thing is synergized?  whats your take on this?

All i can say is China phones is light and smooth while samseng is laggy and full of bloatware.
