i'm currently using a Belkin 75k amp lightning surge protector, i bought it due to my modem got struck by lightning twice in 1 week, before this, i had a belkin 6500 amps surge protector, which really did not work (my modem got destroyed even after using it).

i just wanna know how does Cal-lab surge protectors compare to the overpriced belkins? thinking of getting 1 cal-lab just to protect my ADSL modem. I dont kinda like trust belkin anymore, since the first one i bought didnt work at all. also i want to know how much current (amps) can the cal-lab ADSL modem surge protector handle.

and lets say my modem got destroyed even after hooking it up to the Cal-Lab surge protector, will i get a reimbursement for the damaged modem? my house gets struck by lightning on a very regular basis, i have even seen it struck right behind my bedroom window.

first off, thanks for the pm.

To answer your questions.

1. My PC and equipment (modem) are not that near to the window.
2. It was correctly installed, i'm an IT undergraduate, things like these are a piece of cake to set up (and obvious too).

The lightning strikes rarely go through the power lines, but the phone line is what caused my modem to be burnt (including the network card which is connected to the modem).

Recommend me a good set up specifically to protect my modem only, since its the most vulnerable piece of electrical equipment i have. (it got destroyed for a total of 4 times already). From the testimonials i see, the cal-lab seem to work, my pc is on and connected to the internet for close to 24/7 so i need good protection. I will consider to buy the lightning isolator from u, but no promises of course (since i just bought a RM170 Surge Protector a few days ago). Thanks.

oh ya, i did not say i wanted to protect my telephone line only, what i want to protect is the whole modem, which means protection for both power line & telephone line so that my modem is completely safe.

my PC so far has never been damaged due to lightning strikes, only my modem and network card has.

anyway i'll think about it, if my overpriced belkin protector fails again i'll get one IT pack from u. So far lightning has striked my house twice after buying the belkin and my modem is still safe.

oh btw, i have this model which got burnt a year ago SFTV9822FC, it came with my astro.

hi there, its me again (if u remember lah), my belkin surge protector failed me, damn they suck, not to mention very expensive. Recommend me a fail-safe protection for my whole PC system, where priority is given to the modem/ethernet line/telephone line, the lightning always strike my modem and network card, everytime that happens i lose RM100 worth of hardware. The PC itself is usually very resistant to such strikes.

So, in essence what i want is protection for:

Modem, LAN Card (ethernet port), Telephone line (the one connected to modem), PC.

thanks.

i want the best protection, especially for my modem, my pc is pretty resistant to lightning strikes, the one that does most damage is the one that travels from the phone lines to my modem and ethernet card.

lightning always strike behind my house..for unknown reasons.

i might be installing a lightning rod soon.

BTW, what do u mean by 'back kick'?

One modem just got fried again even after using cal lab... I'm telling ya, it doesn't stop 100% from the telephone line to the ADSL modem. You wanna know why I know its from the line and not from the power?

1) My extension plug still works
2) My PC is still undamaged
3) The modem adapter still works pefectly.... my new modem is still using the old adapter now.
Kthx so much for cal lab... btw, the cal lab isolator is still working. but the modem is gone... i dont get it... sigh... maybe its just me bad luck.  sad.gif

wow same case as me, only that i'm currently using belkin. Everything is fine, except my modem and lan card, u better check your lan card as well, its most probably fried too.

hmm, i donno bout CAL-LAB la, but when using my belkin, i protect both power socket and telephone line together, there were no loop holes as far as i can tell cus all hardware connected to only 1 surge protector.

if i do all as u say after getting CAL-LAB (using IT pack that u recommended), and my modem still get burnt, will there be a warranty for that?

oh like that one ah, RM5k is quite alot, anyway quote me a price for the set u recommended, i want it to be able to protect my equipments at least 99.9% of the time. And i'd like the insurance too.

Hi bro, i bought the Trinity IT pack...i think around a year ago, not really sure, it was recently strike by lightning, but the only damage was to the telephone line port, it is no longer working, do you have like a replacement for that module only? Thanks.
