I've watched the Petaling district rocket launching competition. I've seen most of the teams using air pressure to launch the rocket. They pump a lot of air into a chamber and release the pressure under the rocket, and it goes up. At least that's how I think it works.

what bottle is great for making this kind of rockets? pepsi? coke? can someone more experienced help me?

What i did last time:

1) try to get the biggest bottle u can find.
2)fill using hot water
3)tape the rubber bung to the bottle....can pump in more air

last time managed to reach untill level 3

A tip to make ur rocket go higher!
Add those ENO powder substance or anything that can react with water and produce high amount of gas(such as panadol soluble) into a bottle fill with 2/4 water.
Close the lid of the bottle quckly with the end connected to a high preasure tire pump.
Then start the pump.
Ur bottle rocket can go up to 6 stories up if ur module really works

Damn i should open a thread last year when i was making my water rocket! This is a good idea, indeed!!!

I got some tips for u:
-make the rocket's head as sharp as possible and make sure it is not too heavy or not too light. Erm... just heavy enough for ur rocket to fly straight then is enough.
-install 3 big wings for u rocket. Every wing is 120 degree from others. (However, this will make u lose if the day u launch is windy. )

Why not make use of the carbonated soft drink itself?

Buy a new bottle of Coke/Pepsi and a roll of Menthos.
Dunk in 10 Menthos tablets or more packed in some water soluble packaging and close it super quickly because the reaction will start in 0.5 seconds or less if you don't.

Turn it upside down, shake it for additional effect and let it loose.

* If you dump in the 10 Menthos tablets without any packaging, you will get a volcano instead in 0.5 seconds.
