ic.. any ideas where to get a good yet cheap ones?? haha in Klang or PJ area..
*
there are not many dive comp which is cheap. but all dive comp are supposedly good

for a basic dive comp which is cheap, you can try to look for suunto zoop or mares puck pro (below 1k). But they are big and can't be used in everyday's activities. or for a watch size dive comp, you can see d4i (i think around 1400rm)

for the shop, I don't know too much, maybe the other can guide you

Yahh... i was tense especially when instructor always scold me not to do that, not to do this.
can't blamed him, coz it's all about safety. i understand that
almost drowned during mask take off clearing skill test. doh.gif
*
where do you take ur OW course? and with which organization?

aw too bad you have bad experience on your first OW. Instructor shouldn't be scolding, they should teach you patiently as OW course is a beginner course..

but you should try diving again, just try for fun dive. and maybe if can, join us for our next trip. there are lot's of sifu that can mentor/help thumbup.gif

hi guys,im gonna take my open water licence this coming july 2013 at perhentian. Is gonna be a 4 days 3 night diving course but the diver shop that we enroll is insisting we must stay at least 18 hour before returning which means an extra night stay,is it because to avoid decompression sickness since we are flying to the location?
*
Yup it's the rule for diving. You need no flight time minimum 18hour after your last dive, better 24hour if can.

for example your last dive at 2pm. then you can fly minimum from 8am in the morning, the day after.

Oh yeah, this is to avoid decompression sickness. So you can dive directly after you fly, not the other way around.

I think if only discovery scuba you won't have dcs because you have more than 18 hour and dsd is not that deep..

that is not dcs, that is your body requesting more diving and more air from tanks hehehe

Beside that still got a lot of preparation. Gear researching and buying....gain some experience...haha...
All those trip that you all go....so nice..
*
For Open water course, you just need to prepare money (of course), time (3 day is sufficient), and some concentration and focus on the 3 day course.. that's all... and then you will be certified.

My advice, don't buy anything yet before taking open water course. Open water course will always consist of full equipment rental.. After you are certified and having more fun dives then only will you know more what you need to buy (if you want too). Personally I only buy dive computer (after my 15th dive), still renting all the mask, fin, bcd, wetsuit, regulator up until now.

So don't weight yourself thinking about buying gear, experience etc.. you can join us after you are licensed, or even taking the OW course in the trip but of course you will be separated with the group, as OW course will do some skills etc.. But of course you need to book/arrange for the course

normally U do it once than u can estimate it already. I normally put 3 weights but as I dive I find that I could start using 2 weights but I still remain 3 cos easier for me to control.

But depends on BCD also.

I tried b4 coming out with almost 0 bar. fight current in Redang. 50 bar already signal go up.. when doing safety stop see left with almost 0. straight away take DM octo n suck. haha. Now breathing control better already so not so worried about this.
*
you suck from your DM?? drool.gif drool.gif

edit: ooo redang.. thought the perhentian trip hahaha

thx munkeyflow and b5n111,

looking forward to MIDE next month.. :-D

is the exam hard? one draw back i understand from going to island or a vacation place is the time constraint.. like if fail exam, then more time going to be spend retaking it..
*
the exam won't be hard, as long you know the answer to the question in the book.

There is questions that you need to answer at the end of each chapter in the book. And basically, if I remember it well it will ask the same question, but not as much.. and you need only minimum score 50/100 to pass.. CMIIW

Hi, good afternoon. Thank you for greeting me. Professional anglers have very deep knowledge in sports fishing and practice 'catch and release' method. They also involve in IGFA (International Game Fish Association) activities.

There are also several other aspects that describes a professional angler.
*
btw as a professional anglers, it's your main occupation? or it's like hobby but you do it seriously?

Swatch just launched cheap dive watch not too long ago, around 90usd. It should be good enough for diving. but idk if they sell in in malaysia yet or not?

Dilemma...  casio gshock rm300+ or suunto zoop rm750 for new diver like me?
*
if you really want to buy the watch only for diving, then i recommend to just go for zoop or puck pro

because a dive comp have so many more advantages than normal watch (only tell time). a basic dive comp can log your dives, warning/alert of ascent speed, dive time, temperature, allowable dive time, deco alert, safety stop feature, and many other

with gshock, you can use it also for daily when not diving, but zoop is too big for that. Unless you buy a more expensive dive comp which is like a watch: d4,d6, etc

so +1 for zoop/puck pro from me

There are plenty who do that. For me i think if your comfortable with your open water and want to move on to advance than might as well go ahead as for me advance is just a "term" and does not mean anything.
I mean if your an OW only you could dive to 25m too and do those things you do during AOW, with enough dive your buoyancy would be better, anyone could dive around a sunk ship/boat, and compass is the same as on land.

Important is the mindset to dive safe and within limits. brows.gif

p/s: no1 wants people to go get their license and stop diving after that. Thats y i always suggest DSD first to know if you really like it and would want to continue with it.
*
OW can dive to 25m?? you're not legally permitted to dive that deep with only OW, unless you take adventure course.. (in the end it's all money)

Sometimes after a few dives, if the instructor/DM is confident in your skills. They will bring you to certain dive sites that are over the depth limit for OW divers. Just like our recent dive to Sophie Rickmer's Wreck at Pulau Weh which is 40-50m deep. The dive center require us to have a minimum of rescue with 150 dives or DM with 100 dives. They didn't really check our certifications and log book but they did a deep check dive at 45m a day before to test if we really know what we are doing, before going for the wreck dive.

Again, this depends on how strict the dive center is. Certain dive centers strictly follow the rules while some are a bit more flexible if they see that you are experienced.

Anyhow, AOW is not much of a big step from OW. I would recommend most to just go ahead and do AOW after getting their OW if they find that they enjoy diving and are pretty much comfortable with their buoyancy underwater. Don't see it as an achievement, you can see it as gaining new knowledge to dive safer. Rescue and DM on the other hand, is quite a big step upwards and you'll really need to have some experience before jumping into it. It's very good though, you will learn a lot on how to handle emergency situations and so on.
*
I know about that, it will depend on the dive center and the dm/instructor.

Just a reminder, usually for legal purposes (accident - insurance) it will depend on the policy of the company.

For example if we have accident at depth 25m or has passed more than 20m in the dive, and you only have OW license. Normally it wont be covered by the insurance. So it's for legal purposes.

And as always, better dive within your limits
