Don't get a mask that you can't pinch your nose easily. You'll have problems when equalizing and will get very stressed up underwater.
Go for those that are made for Asian faces. Try IST masks or if you have a higher budget, check out Tusa's mask. It's also important to find a mask that can fit your face so water don't easily flood your mask.

Hah! It's roughly 5 minutes drive from my house as well.

Basically kecil has more night life and more happening. Besar is more laid back and quiet.

I would suggest to choose a dive center first, then see what are the available hotels nearby. No point getting a hotel faraway from the dive center.

We currently don't have open space for our Redang trip also. No worries, next year got 2 Perhentian trips (1 in March, 1 in April) then another trip to Pemanggil island sometime in May. We are planning for Pulau Weh and also Mabul/Sipadan hopefully.

Come TT with us some time! You have been diving for so long! In 2004, I just did my first DSD only hahah.
