Thanks for the useful info in the thread starter..

I would like to ask, using unifi... How do you link up the fixed line phones (or have more than one working fixed line phone)?

Tq!
*
u can't, phone line together with unifi is running thru fiber

unlike the usual copper wire phone line, totally different things

Inside the cable contains optic fibre, whereas streamyx pass through copper cables.
*
these cables has been there for years, but this place still no unifi, only streamyx

i thought streamyx will have somekind of hybrid thingy

like fiber to dslam then copper to houses

First picture shows a repeater, usually for fiber backbone cables. Yellow-striped fiber cables can be used for backbone/infrastructure cables or HSBB ones.
*
what kind of infrastructure could it be?

Hello sifu

Recently many TM guys busy laying this thick black cable

This is not fiber right? Fiber optic should be thin and black with yellow stripped

So what cable is this? Old phone copper line?

Yes, Fiber cable is in black with yellow strip but it is thick too. The only FTTH cable for outdoor in black color is thin. Then white color for indoor.
*
Thanks, btw they also got pull black yellow stripped thin cable at the same time

Hopefully its to upgrade the internet infrastructures here

I can confirm this is fiber based on what I seen multiple times all across Kuching with some TM staff on the ground while it's being installed.

Usually it will be conducted by 3rd party contractors like this one

*
is it?

i thought yellow stripped black one only is fiber

Thanks. Any brand/model you would recommend?

-cheap and reliable = TP-Link (also comes with bandwidth control)

-more expensive and reliable = Asus

most important thing u need if you and your family members often use WiFi,

- WiFi N/AC 5Ghz,
standard WIFI N 2.4Ghz nowadays may not stable if u have many other neighbour WIFI around your house interference urs, it's better to have dual band that has 5Ghz,
better stability and unlikely lost bandwidth especially if you have more than 20Mbps connection (UNIFI 30Mbps)
