BR pays out the interest monthly to the savings account and from there you can withdraw as required, betul? Meaning, it can perhaps serve as spare cash, hmm...
Anyone has tried the branch(es) in Penang and has any good advice?

want to know too. By saying, the amount can't be accumulate? Because the interest is given directly to the SA. So, the interest will be the same throughout the years because is into diff site ???

Well, G have to but at the expense of Rakyat for their mismanagement of the country's finance. Good excuse to introduce Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Ringgit is now 3 years low against the greenback and you had made a wise decision to diversify into foreign currency FD earlier.
Government bond yields is at its high since mid 2011 and I don't see a point to lock-in current FD rate for longer tenure.

No wonder EPF throwing Malaysia's REITs like no body business weeks before prior to the Fitch announcement. (haha just guessing)

Is Hong Leong Flexi FD still available? I cannot find this promo on their website.

Hong Leong Bank is having a 3.3% for 3 months FD promo, but need to put additional 5% fund into CASA:
http://www.hlb.com.my/promo/pfs/dep_33FD/index.jsp?s=promo
I am not familiar with BSN's FD procedures, I cannot tell if this is a good deal or not.
But for me, I am not interested.

I hope you do not mind I am straight forward.
If you put RM 10k in either 3.5% or 3.8%, it does not made the profit rate in significant difference.
The difference is only RM 30 for a year in between 3.5% and 3.8%.

I suggest you to place your FD for 1 month or 3 months first, this website will give you some ideas:
http://savemoney.my/best-fd-rates-in-malay...1-for-one-year/

Just starts slowly, you will be okay..  biggrin.gif

BSN doh.gif

the T and C more doh.gif

I not suggesting BSN is because that the want you to put some amount in other place only can enjoy 3.95. But in the end u kira kira is less than 3.15, haiyo!!!!!!! doh.gif doh.gif The officer say til me pening pening. Than i refuse.

Another deal from BSN is the SSP. You got % to win prices, and they have interest rate too. 3-3.15 % .....

Still remember PBB super FD doh.gif doh.gif

I'm thinking to start with short period tenure too, since this is the first time i get to it.
From the website, I dont really understand their calculation, 12mth-3.75% but why 6mth-1.858% ?
and what is the difference btw effective IR and IR ?
Tot every bank is the same, never been to negotiate with them yet.  laugh.gif
*
you know why 6 month 1.8xx ??

because it is half year man. If 6 month also 3.75, then every one go for 6 month, bankrupt la !!

same as 3 months. let say ur interest got is 1000 per 12 months. thn ur tenure is 3 months, meaning you only got 1000/12*3

hope i help...

MBB Raya 9 months : ->

3.38 effective rate.

bro, if u got time, go read some of the threads in the prop section.

there seems to be supermen these days, i m not sure.

and pls dun say 3k a month as that may be seen as insulting as some claim 5k starting is common, 8k after 3 years, 15k at 30 is the norm.

i felt out of place, so i came here...

Skim simpanan pendidikan national. For children account.
You better read up the withdrawal terms and conditions, very rigid. sweat.gif
*
SSPN not only for children. you can apply for yourself only you are more than 25.

yes, withdrawal seem very troublesome, but who want to do it if the rate is good and fully protected? ( not sure but, for me is ok )

TAX RELIEF is 6000. Given that you have 6000 in your SSPN account.

But why not? tax relief and nice interest rate.

I don't know this but, only after the statement come.

I have 20.00 MYR. Interest given is 0.86 MYR.

Rate = 4.25 %

Thanks for the great info. All the long I thought SSPN is goving peanut. A very good option considering now can deduct up to RM6k.....for those paying tax bracket the return is much much better than the interest rate..

A question on tax, as of 30 April, SSPN balance 6k and reported 6k in tax filing. Can we withdraw on 2 May and then next year deposit again 6k on 29 April before tax filing? Any stipulated period that SSPN amount has to be kept? Of course getting 4.25% is a good rate if a person decided not to withdraw it...
*
Better don't use trick on tax.....

The 6K must have in the account at least >12 months IMO.....

Why do you have only RM20 in there, lol...

Same like other members here, I'm also surprised they give out good % and it's tax relief somemore. But withdrawal seems to be a big problem.
Assuming if we keep RM6k (since it's the max tax relief as well), we get not only 4.25%, but also gained from the relief...so, it's higher overall. May be worth it if someone would be nice enough to brief us on the actual withdrawal process rclxms.gif
*
the reason I have 20 is that last time need to open sspn only can apply ptptn loan for study. But I never know the interest rate was that high and tax relief for my dad. But the withdrawal is doh.gif

but what they did is good actually, the name by itself ad education fund, so I don't see any bad in that compare to other insurance education policy. I have one but that interest is very little when compared to this. And no tax relief. Well that is my opinion on this. Every thing has it boon and bane.

4.25%??? May I know when was your interest credited?
I have just started SSPN last year, and if I worked out the interest backward it is only 2.91%p.a! Which was posted on 1Jan2013.
I have deposited twice last year, so I worked out the interest based on daily balance.
Maybe you have more balance at the beginning of the year and not RM20 for the entire year to get you 86sen interest.

Oh, btw, you can also check the acct online via eSSPN, very convenient. I have just checked, there was no interest credited after 1Jan2013.
I opened SSPN acct mainly for tax relief reason and serve as a saving for my kids, not hoping for any high interest rate.
But if 2.91% also not bad lah.  thumbup.gif

Time to pump in the account again for this year (before the end of the year).
It is quite convenient as I can transfer in the money via m2u. No need to go to branch.  rclxms.gif
But to open acct must go to branch lah.
*
the reason you got 2.91 is because of the pro rated interest. Meaning, ur saving did not enough tenure, which is 12 month. Maybe only 10 months or less. My 20 was credited more than a year, so, I got full interest rate. But somehow I deposited some into my account during July, I will not get because the ending account date is December. Next year January only got statement. Erm, any who got amanah saham will understand...

the most you can withdraw from sspn every year is 10% so even if you are thinking to to debit n credit every alternate year to get the tax relief...it wont work. Worse is.....u have to go to a certain branch and etc etc to do it...not as easy as depositing into it.

not to mention the forms to be filled. doh.gif

so, for those who don't have easy cash flow, please think twice.

Received a courier service today. inside it is a letter sent from Std Chartered Bank. It seems that SC not even trust or bother to use Post Office service?

Inside the letter it is an offer from SC on their 12 month Step Up FD. SC is trying to get their existing customer (who took up their step up FD a year ago) to continue with their new step up FD which is low comparing that of  Ocbc, UOB..

1-3 month 2.8%
4-6 month 2.9%
7-9 month 3%
10-12 month 4.5%
Effective rate is 3.3%. SC unlike Public Bank, is professional by telling the customer what is the effective rate in the letter...

Most likely will switch RHB 12 month 3.78%...

Banks which is showed their ER is a good bank...
