Hello, Sg government just released their Budget 2013? May I know MOM still issue WP/ EP/ S-Pass to West Malaysian who's fresh entry to work in SG from all industries? Hear say they are very straight to issue permit to foreigners and follow 9:1 hiring scheme? Does this scheme really exist?

there is already a quota of Foreigners:Singaporeans/PRs for companies to follow, no ?
*
How many quota of foreigner equal to how many S'poreans/ SPR in organization? It means that foreigners will have less chance to work in SG companies due to the quota? blush.gif

thank you  cry.gif

i treat it as stepping stone. this admin assistant job is too easy for me.

when she interview me, she ask "you ok with the job as admin assistant?"

clearly she knows i can do better.

i just need a chance. and she say after probation and see how i do my job then will "readjust" my salary.

and they dun have anybody doing their admin job now, one of the hr person took over.

maybe i could settle a 2k job by sitting there longer a bit.

and with this stupid job i still can take my time search for a suitable job, not like now rushing to secure a good job but all want me do sales only but basic also almost never 2k.

i hope i am doing the right thing.
*
Hi Xtylish,
May I know what degree u hold? Not only the interviewer asked you that question. I'll also ask u for the same question. From my understanding, usually, they won't offer high basic salary for sales jobs. Coz you're entitle for commission if u are able to hit the target. If you're doing sales, they offer you 1.6-2k basic salary is consider alots. Remeber, u still hv commission. Some of the companies only cover ur transport allowance and no basic salary at all. What you want to do must hit target and get the commission.

It is hard to get a job for a audit associate position in mid tier firm in sg ?

current cgpa around 3.4 , in my last semester now and would like to work in sg.

my degree will be the bachelor in accounting , from mmu .
*

I'm not sure about Audit associate position. But, I'm sure there are so many accounting jobs in SG. With degree in accounting should be easy to get accounting job at there. The pay should be ok... Last time, they likes to hire foreigners to fill up Engineering and Accounting jobs. The people around me quite many of them work for accounting jobs! One of my friend just hold LCCI also manage to get 2K job as account assistant/ clerck. Another one with LCCI cert & 10 years account expereinces in SG can get 2.6k. For degree holder with few years accounting experiences in sg can earn up to 3K SGD!

bachelor in communication (hons) advertising.

i know sales offered me 1.6k for basic + commission.

but i really do not wish to do sales.

if i wanna do sales i can stay in malaysia to do that.
*
Haha... Freshgraduated? You're graduated from M'sia university, right? I think I might know you're from what university... One of my friend work as sales person in SG Advertising firm. Previously, she join that company and work as sales administrator. She's waiting for 2 years only successfully to transfer to sales dept. She enjoy to do sales rather than admin job.

The interviewers got question you for "Dont you go to work in advertising field, since u hold the advertising degree" & "What makes you think that u wwant to work for admin assistant?"...

That's why I say basic salary 1.6k + commission is a reasonable offered. Even, u work as sales in M'sia, ur basic salary could be lower than these! Coz there are few types of sales salary offer in M'sia. 1st type: With basic around 1.2-2.3k MYR + commission. 2nd type, company just cover ur transport allowance + commission with no basic salary offer. 3rd type, company hire you as "direct sales", which mean you are consider as "outsider/ outsource you to find more customers" so you're not entitle for any allowance and basic salary! Your income just depends on your commission, if only u r able to hit target.

I know your feelings. Coz I've same thinking of you. If you wanna to do sales, u may come back to M'sia. If you possess good sales exp, I believe that you can earns the amount that you want in M'sia. It is hard to get a good job in sg nowadays. Unless, engineering, accounting, sales jobs. If you flip sg newspaper recruitment, for sure, u will notice it. And, You also can found many opening in these three fields vacancies in M'sia too.

my friend with a/c degree from australia + 5 years experience in sg now SGD4k.

lucky her.
*
Oh... Lucky her. But, u hv to determine how many years accounting exp she has work in SG and M'sia. What position she hold in a company. What type of company / industry she is currently wotking? 5 years ago sg economy is good. Now is different story!... My friend graduated from local univeristy with degree work as engineer with 1yr experience in M'sia jump to SG for 7-8 year ago. His starting salary is 3.5K SGD as engineer post in SG! Another friend hold Master degree from UK with 2 yrs enginering experiences in M'sia jump to SG 2 years ago. His starting salary only 2.8K!... The interviewers still says 2.8K SGD is consider very good offer to foreigners and they don't offer so high salary to degree holder! They are using the bad economy as a reason to persuade him to accept the job!... See the different?

yeah, if the Goverment shrink the quota of foreigners. you could try google for the exact figure. think it's different among the type of work pass.
*
Thanks for your information. Last time, it is hard to get a job in sg without quota. Nowadays, more worst with quota. The chances will become even lower!.... Sigh...

That's why I'm wondering why she is on high paid with normal degree. Of coz, ACCA standard is consider as professional level and it is higher than degree in accounting standard!...
Of coz she is high paid. See, what indsutry she is working.

Want to ask if the interviewer ask u the reason for leaving your last company and you say kena retrench, izzit a negative thing? Will the employer tell u "izzit becuase u cannot perform therefore retrench you?"
*
Kena retrench is always not a good reason for leaving. If you tell the interviewer this! Of coz, they will hv very bad impression toward you!... 1st on their mind would be this candidate cannot perform well in previous company that's why d company retrench you. Ur mark will from 100% become 40%!... Specially, HR personnels don't like to hear like reason. Surely, the interviewer will ask you "There are so many staffs in d company, why they choose to retrench you and not others?" How do you answer this question? They will add-on : Usually, company or superior will choose to retrench those who cannot perform well in their jobs or those don't hv close relationship with colleagues, superiors, internal and external parties! There are so many reasons can use. Don't try to mention "retrench" during interview session!... Coz it is quite "sensitive word" for the interviewers!... If u really want to use it. U might need to prepare more tough answers to reply the interviewers!... Coz they will hv more interest to dig out more about ur previous company management information from you!... Good luck to you....

In Singapore, you need a degree + ACCA, if you want to extract value from the ACCA.

If you have ACCA alone, many companies will only hire you at diploma or technical level pay scale. You get less than someone holding a degree alone. As far as I can tell, only the accounting firms will confirm hire you into their graduate pay scale if you have ACCA but no degree. My US MNC employer for instance, will not.
*
It's unfair... Some of my friends study ACCA and keep saying ACCA papers are much more harder compared to Degree in Accounting!... That's why so many ACCA graduated wanted to join accounting firm!... No... It should be they must completed their internship/ training in accounting firm before become accountant!... No comment.... Luckily, I'm not study Accounting...

If you kena retrenched, sometimes the company will write a letter of recommendation for you, or you ask them to give you one. Some even better companies will help you look/ intro for a new job.
*
Every where also the same practices not only sg!... Closed down the company and transfer all the business to another sister company!... Usually, the company will make huge compensation to the staff who accepted retrenchment... Seldom company so free to help you looking for a job... Unless, the management is going to introduce you to their sister company, maybe!...

Actually, I can feel it. Mostly, US based co. seperate the degree and membership. No wonder, their degree study in US is 4-5 years!... Unlike, others countries are much more shorter...

Shall we worry about the quota being set by SG Govt? It's sound like much more difficult to get a job in SG!... cry.gif

Hi,
i just got an offer from a company from singapore. the nature of business of the company is oil & gas. what have they offered me is reasonable and after do calculation, i can save a lot (converted to ringgit). this means i am not worry about salary vs expenses.

what i am worry now is the working environment with singaporean culture. lot of ppl said that singapore working culture is stressfull.
perhaps anyone in here can clarify this.

my current job is good and very relax working place. if i go to singapore, i will sacrifice all of this just because of money. Hurmmmm...
*
What is ur position with ur future oil & gas company in sg? It's depend on company/ management... Majority of my friends working in sg said it is very stress to work at there and always go back home very late... Sometimes, they wotk till 3AM! But, some of them told me that they are quite enjoy with their jobs and still can manage to knock off before 7pm with 5days works... My colleague from sg also quite enjoy at sg! She always ask me did ur company pay OT to us? Since, we always work late!... Sometimes, 8.30pm-11pm still working at office and reply email... She even says they don't need to stay for OT! And, they can knock off on time... If the jobs really requite them to stay for OT, Company will cover it!

Guys is it ok for fresh grad to look for job in Singapore? Or should get some experience in Malaysia first b4 going over, bcs will ur Singaporean colleague be willing to train & help out Malaysians???
*
Hello. I think is abit hard to get a job in sg recently... Their govt have been release the new quota for foreigner vs Singaporean/SPR... I beleive that If you really searching sg job, you'll find out many recruitment ads stated ONLY Singaporean/ SPR needs apply. Or, "No quota for foreigner"...
I think that if you really likes to work in sg, u better go now as u are fresgraduated. Don't wait till u hv more n more experiences in Malaysia and only decide to looking for a job in sg! It's too late... Coz u will start compare about the salary... For example, currently u earn RM3K with 3 yrs working experience in MY! But, sg company might not offer u SGD 3K!... They will offer you below SGD2K!... Are you willing to accept it? If you request for the same amount in SGD, I'm sure that HR will reject you!... They will says u earn RM3K and currency, and blah... blah... blah....
Hmmm.... It's depend... I believe that everywhere also hv good and bad colleagues and it is not depend on countries... M'sia companies also got quite many bad colleagues that do not want to help new incomer!... Especially, u r degree or master graduated. They will expect you to know everything from busniess--> IT---> Account---> Operation---> System----> Engineering---> Sales & Marketing---> and so many things that I can't really state one by one!... My currently company senior will only teach you one time!... No repeat... Their mind set is they do not get extra salary if they teach you. They are being force to teach new incomer! Or else, they will get scold by boss & affect their bonus!... The most important is +ve learning attitude for freshgraduted nowaday... I notice that quite many freshgraduated changed jobs every 3months in every company!... I really don't know what reasons that they give the interviewers...
They suppose to teach u if u r freshgraduated. If not, who are you going to start ur work?

Happy Labour Day to everyone here...
Yesterday, I've received a call from sg company! 1st question, they ask my status of employment in sg! I replied "I'm a foreigner"... The HR straight away asked my expected salary!... And, she said it is very high expected, their offer salary range is from 1.8K- 2K SGD!.... I straight away replied, I'm not interested to ur job & hang up the phone!!!... Hello, I feel like she is insulting my 5 years working experience, knowledge and qualification!... They shortlisted me because I've relevant working experience that can be fit their job task well.... Just becuase I've no sg working experience they wanted to pull down my salary range same to freshgraduate diploma holder from sg polytechnic??? Usually, 2K SGD offer is for those who's fresh graduate from sg polytechnic with diploma holder and no experience at all... Unfair... Unfair.....

At least 2.9k (Checked).  Does anyone here in construction field for civil eng here ? I hope you dont mind to share your view as a consultant or contractor in sg  notworthy.gif

Day Dreaming? I don't think a local degree holder with no epxerience can get 3k SGD offer in sg! In reality, that's quite impossible. Unless, u r graduate from NUS or NTU SG... I can say 3k sgd paid for NUS & NTU graduated is low paid...I don't think they will call u for interview, If u really write 3k expected salary in ur resume. Even, u get a chance to interview, they will question you "Explain to me why u feel u worth for this expected salary?"....
I know one of ur senior also from UTM BEng in civil. He has 1 yr working exp in M'sia and he 1st jump to SG is only SGD1.8K as civil eng!.... After 3 years woirking in SG only managed to get 3.5k SGD.... Now, he is in management ppl of course, his salary is more n more....
Just bear in mind, no employer willing to offer higher pay for foreigner with no exp (This is reality).

lol, these cinapek think SGD 2000 is veli high ma .
2000 x 2.47 = RM 5000 . Wow this is like a salary of an engineer of 5 years experience.

The reality is if you are getting RM 5000 ringgit , you should be getting SGD 5000 . or minimum  RM5000 x 0.8 = USD 4000 to go to SG .

Anyway, kudos for your bravery to tell them to f*** off.

Hercules, Yalah... Make me so angry, not interested to talk to her and hang phone immediately!... By the way, that's from small company la... HR is very good in calculation what?.... Of course, she will think like that!... I'm not engineer. Do u think that she dare to offer engineer with 5 yrs exp 1.8-2k SGD? Hell no enginee want to with her la!... That's why we need to clarify the salary range b4 go for interview... I went there one time to attended the Electronics line US MNC interview... The caucasian interviewers so shocked when she saw my expected salary in application form!... That's why I noticed those interviewers don't really go throught my resume and expected salary before invite me for interview!... Mad...

U don't expect in EEE & EOM/ Others electronics, semicon, fatroty automation, design engineering industry in Asia can offer u high salary (My survey toward all my customers and suppliers in Asia pacific)!... As I can tell you, my SG suppliers (MNC) managers level all salary is 3K SGD (All of them are singaporean, majority graduated from UK, USA, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore Universities)!... But, companies in EEE & EOM will send their engineer to USA/ UK//Germany/ Europe for trainings compared to others industries!... As U know that Electronics world is move very fast!... They must keep u in the front in order to help them produce n design more n more advance technology!...

Or, I can says my current company are using advance techonology and system which is much more modern compared to some of the US MNC in SG!... And, I hold a recognize Bachelor Degree!... By right, It shouldn't be a problem to get a job at SG!... I got quite many unimates are working in SG as well...
