Guys so about how much is a master room or a room with a toilet cost in Singapore after nego???
*
Nego?
Before I even see the unit (that means when i called the agent), the agent already told me point blank to bring my cheque along and if ngam already pay deposit. He said don't waste his time if I want to see-see only. I haven't even mentioned nego yet. I think if i say nego, he straight away slam down the phone. And surprisingly many agents also said the same thing.

Uh, be careful with that sort of statement.
They have a degree of rights as citizens, and that the government, which they elected, is supposed to best serve their interests.
This is their home, for us, we are just here to make money. (unless u are a citizen urself).
They don't have a hinterland called Malaysia where, if shit don't work out in SG, we can always go back. For them, they have to make a stand here, because they don't really have any where else to go.
*
I do not believe that's the way it should be.

Look, they (the Singaporean) need us as much as we need them. Don't let them fool you into believing otherwise.

Although you could call it a marriage of convinience (we need the job and money - they need the manpower to do the job to get money), do note that we have our rights as well. Rights that include not being discriminated against.

Arguments that they don't have a hinterland where they can hide in, is not valid. Serving NS is their national obligation. Using it to complain is just not a valid reason.

This is becuase without the "foreigners" and "PRs" they love to "hate", Singapore will be nothing more than a tourist destination. We help them build SG to where it is today.

I quite like their BKT. As long as you don't directly compare it to KL/Klang one and accept that it's a different 'style,' it's not too bad.
*
Really? ok.
I still can't take it.
Guess I'm used to the Klang BKT type

Hypothetical question.
What increment would you need to get, to convince you to go back to KL/Malaysia? (to make it standardised.. let's put it as a percentage?)

Let's say ur annual salary is $40k. Will u accept to go back Msia is Msia offers u say.. RM55k? RM65k? RM70k? What ratio does everyone have, to consider going back.
*
Double.
Means if I earn S$40k p.a., i will not hesitate to go back to M'sia if they offer RM 80k p.a.

quite hard not to feel anything. why they always compare us with the excuse like "ns"? it's their job to protect their own country what. if you are willing to do our jobs, the employers wouldn't mind hiring them what.

i applied for so many jobs, most of the requirements are singaporeans or spr. ain't that enough? not easy to get in sg also with all the obstacles we've been through...
*
To be fair to them, if the same would to happen in Malaysia, I think I also will act like them lo.
plus I don't serve NS in M'sia. Its always a contention point when foreigners who are more hungry and can afford to take less pay compete with locals for jobs

hi guys,

i'm not familiar with oz to be honest but if there's prospect to move to oz with slightly better package, will you go?

i'm comparing dollar per dollar as the conversion rate around 1.23:1 and tax rate in oz around 20-25% for the package. So equal out, package value about the same in sgd.

from what I heard from my friends working in oz, rental and expenses are much more expensive.
*
rental- generally SG is slightly more expensive (depends on where you stay, of course).
food - Aus is def. more expensive
Any services that requires labour - Aus is def more expensive.

the decision is up to you, bare in mind that even you physically in sg does not guarantee you that confirm can get an interview or job within one month, sometimes looking for job is more on timing and luck. unless like other said, you have special skill set that other does not have, then you can land a job pretty quick. the cash in part, let me do a break down for you.

first in singapore, must look for a room, one month depo + one month rental(min three month stay, one month notice)

daily expenses(include food, transport),let say you eat mixed rice, SGD3/meal, then one day assume SGD15 for food and transport given you did not anyhow go anywhere.SGD15 might be more already, but we calculate the maximum.

misc is varies from one to another, this is roughly money you need to cash out for your budget. if your financial is able to sustain you, no problem. you can come down and look for job locally.

this is just my idea for reference, not really applicable for all.
*
You forgot to include start-up cost. Like buying pillows, blanket, iron, ironing board, toilet paper, table fan and table lights, ketle to boil water, pots and pans to cook, cutlery, etc...unless its included in the rent or provided you bring from Malaysia. That's goona cost you at least SGD100 if not more.

I feel rich only when I go back Malaysia lol.

Spending here and living here, when I compare myself relative to the people around me in Singapore, and what I use against what they use etc etc.
Nope. Don't feel rich at all. Probably because 1/6 Singaporean households are millionaires.
*
Actually i've been thinking alot about this.
Working and living in SG (esp if you earn roughly the same in SG as in M'sia, dollar to dollar) does not make u richer.
You will be maybe slightly better than in Malaysia as the cost of living in SG is cheaper, offset by the expensive property and car.
I certainly did not feel rich at all when i earn and spend in SG.
Further i feel SG has reached the peak with its limited resources (plus now they are seriously cutting their only revenue generatorand unique selling point : human resources). Going forward, they will need to find something to set them apart from the rest of the world, a "thing" I just can't think of. And education in SG, although good, cost a bomb too. Esp if you want to get into "good" schools.

The right question is whether you feel richer working in Singapore or Malaysia?

Or even whether you feel richer in Malaysia when working in Singapore?

All I know is that I needed to take a 30 year loan to pay for a semi-d house in PJ when I was working in KL, assuming I don't get retrenched or sick during those 30 years. Factoring in salary increases, bonuses etc, I could probably pay off the loan in 20 years. And for the first 10+ years, it was going to be tight!

After working in Singapore for 8 years, buying that same house in PJ is now no longer an issue. Heck, can even buy the house next door and make it a bungalow.
*
I guess what I meant is not cross border purchasing power but earning and spending in the same country.
