Hi guys I'm planning to go to Singapore to work hope I can get some answers from ur to get me started. Help pls:
1. I just want to work there don't want to be PR so I don't have to fill that form up right?
2. So the working pass the company will do everything for me right, when they accept me after interview or I must do it?
3. My expected salary I think I'm gonna get there is sgd1500. So the CPf and taxes will be deducted straight from my pay or I have to save my self then pay it when require?
4. Room rental sgd 600 does this come with personal toilet? This price range housemate won't be bangla right???
*
1. what form?
2.working pass is employers job. u just sign here n there if necesary (always read tru what they ask u to sign!)
3. ur expectation 1500, or they give u clue of 1500? its very low. but u not miss-type isnt? u said Working-Pass?
4.Dude, u earn 1500 and want to get room for 600? that is huge chunk of ur expenditure! try to get lower, find roommate, stay in JB. u might not save a single penny/ hv entertainment with that salary n room spending.

for the application of working pass, usually the company request you to fill up the form after signed the offer / confirmation letter or before that? Because last week I went Singapore to attend few interviews, and one of the employer seem like got interested to hire me and ask me to fill up the form for application of working pass. Is it in right procedure?
*
i think together. coz i supose they submit the offer letter together with the working pass form.
im not so sure tou.
as long as they dont ask u for money at first place, thats alright.
dont fall into scam or company who try to take advantage of ur working need.

I had a very bad experience b4 when renting room but have to share common toilet, some of the things I seen still haunts me till today. So I rather stay in my parents house when my room not master have my own toilet so I don't have to relive that nightmare. But I'm kinda bored staying here ATM I want try life in Singapore.
*
staying with owner might reduce the chance of getting dirty toilet.
btw, u bored staying here (Msia) ?
it might get worse if u stay in SG..its more borrring..hahaha

When I first came here and made my first withdrawal at the POSB ATM, I stood right behind the person using the ATM. Then some one pointed at the queue to me.. sweat.gif

Never thought the queue can be that far away from the ATM...

in sg, u never noe what they are Q for,
smtime they just make a line ,
no shop in front, no bus number sign infront,
smhow they just Q, and we wait long enough, then only we noe what Q is that,
i guess generaly they like to Q,
i always see ppl Q for sbs bus after passing Sg immigration
although they have choice to just ride on causeway bus
which has no Q and coming more frequently sweat.gif

In my opinion the boredom is not derived from your location (MY vs SG), but rather depends on how many friends you have in MY vs. SG, how familiar you are with the places, how much you are willing to spend etc.
I hope things will get better for you.
*
ya i second that. the problem i face is
i nd to spend more to go to natural places-
which is outside the country (i.e msia)

here everywhere is building,
natural places oso manmade whistling.gif

I subcribed that mio tv package.... after few browsing got bored already, can say Astro in Malaysia offered more variety and cheaper.
So many badminton kaki here, u all must look very good....
I stay at Tampines.  Surprisingly, unlike what i read before i came here, people are very friendly here and so many Malaysian...
Maybe i should start by jogging, somewhere down the road like half year + can start learning how to swing the badminton racquet.
Reading is a good choice i guess cause after conversion the books cost around the same here from Malaysia.
*

Hi my S Pass just got approved!

NOw she ask me go to any clinic to do hiv and xray test.

But I dunno which clinic to go. Any advice?
*
QUOTE(puppyee @ Apr 7 2013, 11:13 PM)
Hey guys, I've been here in sg for a week now... trying to settle my medical check up but I'm cracking my head trying to think of where and when to go since everywhere is so crowded on weekends! Does anyone knows any good place for that around depot road, red hill or tiong bahru?

I need to do X-ray as well and from the current information I've got, I need to do check up at a gp, then go x ray, then go back to gp... arrrrrrr

I can't go to private coz I can't claim medical checkup bills from company... they're too cheapo to pay me back  mad.gif
*
1.basically once the Pass approved, go sg as tourist, just simply write on white card u gota stay 2weeks, hardly imigration ask such details.

2.then if the Pass require u to do health check (ie xray n hiv), print out the health check paper from MOM- which is given by company who apply the pass for u. (if no health check required, go direct to step 5 below)

3.go to any clinic. Just show the MOM paper (the title on the paper is: Ministry of Manpower, Medical Examination Form), and ask them how much the health check cost. Compare it with few clinic-mostly is almost d same la tongue.gif . it shouldnt cost more than 50$. In Healthway Medical clinic (its a big chain in sg can find in many township) it cost SGD 44.90
No need fasting, just go in the morning. (for xray n HIV)
healthcheck result can be obtained the 3rd day in the morning.
NOTE: ask ur company if can claim. retain the receipt from clinic and claim to ur company account ppl! nod.gif

4.Once get the result, tell ur company immediately. They will update the result tru online to MOM. ( if ur company using MOM online registration all this while)
By the time MOM granted the Pass (which is in my case was on that day itself!), actually u can start work immediately. ur pass granted date will be base on this date. u officially in! icon_rolleyes.gif

5.Go get the Pass card physically (no need immediately, u can do this within few days-week, read instruction on MOM paper).
bring along whatever document needed. ur company should know this matter. usually its ur Passport, passphoto, medical result, and the MOM paper ur company printed out.
They will mention when u can come back to collect the card. it also within few days only.
NOTE: if possible do bring ur own pass photo with white background. They hv shop offer passphoto there, but it cost u like $6 just for 4 passphoto without softcopy.

6.Collect the card, bring it everywhere u go. if go back msia oso must bring this card along with ur passport. From this time onwards, u wont get stamp in ur pasport, they will just scan ur card. rclxms.gif
if want to be able to use the fast line in Sg immigration, u can register ur Pass card in Lavender. (i dont use this option, coz most of the time the normal imigraton line oso never hv long Q)

CMIIW ya, TS hopefully can stick this on pg 1, if nd sm edit n corection oso can

2 room apartment about $2.1k - $2.4k. There are some outliers of course, like a damn lucky colleague of mine got her unit for $1.9k
*
the funny thing in sg is that whole apartment cost more than renting a room only.
at KL rent a room will be more expensive than renting whole unit and divide the rental among 3-4 people depending on the number of the room.

this is so true.
compare to other country, i feel that sg elderly is the most pathetic.
look at how they work, do cleaning, kopi kia, mcdonalds.
they doesnt seem enjoy their work.
the are not 'aging graciously'.

When i go other country, for e.g in china, the old people go park in the morning, do taichi n dance, then go market talk2 with seller, go home cooking, slep, go back park play mahjong, sing and dance together till evening, go back home watch tv with big family.
looking at them i so envy, shocking.gif feel want to retire asap.

but when i see old people in sg. alamak! i will buy anti-aging pill and pause my age. whistling.gif

QUOTE(seantang @ Apr 19 2013, 07:01 PM)
A lot of people tend to think Singapore is not an affordable place to retire. I tend to agree. Even if you do nothing, eat nothing, go nowhere, own your own property.. you still have to fork out a few hundred per month to cover HDB conservancy charges/condo maintenance fees, property taxes, PUB etc. If you want to drive in your old age... COEs, ERPs, parking, petrol... And if you want to eat well...

I did a quick back of the envelope calculation last time:...

$300 condo maintenance
$100 property tax ($36000 annual value - $6000 owner occupier concession * 4% owner occupier rate / 12 months)
$100 PUB
$900 food and other household necessities
$200 transport (bus, train & very occasionally... taxi)
$1600 Total Monthly Basic Subsistence Spending

That's about RM4000 if I go back to Ipoh:

RM50 cukai tanah (RM600 / 12 months... Ipoh Gdn Semi D)
RM100 Utilities
RM1000 food and other household necessities
RM2500 instalment on used Lancer Evo X
RM150 maintenance and road tax
RM400 petrol
RM4200 Total Monthly Basic Subsistence Spending

Guess where I'm going to retire.

my opinion...not really impossible
yes, there will be more applications for MNC hence more competition, but that is also subjected to more job opening due to larger scale operations.
as a fresh grad, just apply anything and everything that you are interested in.
some may say that your first job will determine your career path, but you already have a picture of your future...a bit vague, but at least u have an idea

You never try, you will always be wondering  smile.gif. Sometime luck plays a small part as well.
*
second that!!
i think it is like finding easter egg here.
actually companies nd ppl to work, and they might expect someone just like you to be their employee.
and you never know when they try to find you
until you try to find them also! when u meet each other.gotha! you are the lucky one

the thing i realize is that ppl who nvr work here is less likely to find the job within reasonable span of time
compare to those who work here before.
few friends who have worked here before can get hired in a new job less than a month.

i think after have the experience in sg, they zoomed into the work experience more than edu qualification-
at least they know u capable to get pass/permit before

I prefer not to call it job hopper
Cos after got my first job in sg....I was approached by different offers
Other than $$ I do take into considerations on other stuffs before actually jumping.
*
is it a fact/myth that MOM will bare people who jumping jobs after few months?
someone post that statement here before...
so i just wonder.
btw how long u hold ur previous job before change to this new one?

QUOTE(lopo90 @ May 14 2013, 12:05 PM)
Only can start working 2 years from now as I'm studying. For now all I can do is to do some part time work while studying. Well I did the math, I can save up to 12k in 2 years here and maybe another 6-8k more while working during semester holidays if all goes well.

That leaves me with 30k left to my target. I plan to work a year before continuing my master overseas.

Fresh science grad salary maybe around 2k? or less? Hardly anyone here in J&C that works in the health science fields. Mostly into finance, marketing, auditing, business etc etc

If working in SG pays 2.3k SGD a month and if I can save half then that would be great.
*
ur calculation is feasible- assumed that u hv no liability back home.
master is not everything, and salary depend on ur luck finding the right company in right time.
base on my experience,ur planing wont go exactly like what u want.but definitely u can works toward it just the timing maybe shorter /longer.
if u can work during ur semester break, better find good company in the hope that they could hire u directly after ur graduation thus u dont waste time.
in sg there r posibilities of internships, try find ur luck here, who noe they can employ u after grad.
