Probably most are lucky to join the sector which most are Malaysian and less demanding job. As you mention, your work place majority are Malaysian, who else to discriminate you??

But is really arguable, anyone could be wrong.

Conclusion is really depends what you want & what sector you join.
*
erm...i nvr mentioned my work place majority are m'sian
i just said...there is a low % of singaporeans, and most of the singaporeans are converted singaporeans.
i think being looked down is a mental thorn on ur side
if u keep thinking like that...every single action will lead to discrimination being the cause when the fact is it could be something else but u have been too focused on u being looked down to see the bigger picture.

Those of u who say sinkie can't identify malaysians, this only applies if u have been here donkey years n already integrate into their way of speaking etc. I been here coming to 2 years and still taxi drivers instantly know I am Malaysian after I speak 2 sentences to them regardless English or mandarin.

i got mistaken as singaporean at sim lim when i wanted to buy parts for my diy comp after <3months here. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Political sources told the New Straits Times that nomination day will be on April 20. Polling Day has been set for May 5 <-- i thought EC is the one who decides.

Just managed to get PR appointment booking on end of april. As I went through explanatory note I noticed that they require us to produce english translation document for those not in english. So do i have to translate my birth cert, educational cert? Where do i get such service?
*
i did not translate my birth cert or my spm cert.
they will request for original SPM cert (which if i remember correctly is in Malay)

Invest in SG blue chip stocks lah.
Buy gold you need place to keep, later kena curi. Or worst Geneva Gold case  shocking.gif

Anyway just wondering what do you guys do with your savings in SG ? The FD rate here is  doh.gif

1. thinking of buying some blue chip and get dividends but seems like foreigners need to have $5000 as deposit just to get a online trading account.
2. Become currency trader  laugh.gif  taking bags of money back... now RM is strong ... 2.457 compared to 4.478 a month ago
3. Don't think I can buy property here in SG
4. Don't think I can buy property in KL either....
others ?
*

i am not that much of an expert in investment but here is my take
forget blue chip if u wan dividends...SG REIT is a better option.
there is "Paper" Gold like ETF

Didn't know you can use 100% of CPF for the downpayment. Don't they have something similar to akaun 1 and 2 like in Malaysia (ie you can only take from akaun 2, cannot touch akaun 1) ? - medisafe, medisheild ... very confusing
*
there is...he mentioned 100% of Ordinary Account (OA)
there is a Special Account (SA)...then there is medishield/medisave or something laugh.gif laugh.gif

Tailo, want to ask you all.

1) Our Medical insurance in Malaysia does it cover? If not should i cancelled it and hopefully get get something back?
2) Life insurance should i maintain?
3) Open a bank account deposit how much ?
4) Open a postpaid line, any deposit. how much?
5) Saw those bundle thing from singtel and starhub for broadband and tv program thing. Anyway using that ? Got advice on those? Also need deposit or any installation fee?
6) Any other misc fee which people like me going to start work in Singapore?
Need to calculate all the cost to see whether first month need to just eat bread for the month or can eat maggie mee.

Thank you
*

1. check with your agent, most likely it will cover, but i think there is a clause that u need to enter m'sia every 3 months.
2. can maintain, life insurance is international...they cover when u drop dead
3. depends on bank...range from 0 - 1000 (i heard).
4. depends on what u are holding. WP needs deposit, EP no need (if i remember correctly). check with your company for more discount with certain telco
5. no idea.
6. rental initial payment and surviving for 1.5 months (in case salary is delayed) unless ur company provide salary advance

No harm trying mah. I applied my PR in January (1yr 7mths work in SG), got the approval a few weeks ago, so.... less than 2years. P2 EP.

Those of u who got PR, did your IPA say anything like 'you are invited to apply for citizenship after X years" etc? I'm wondering if that line really means a decent chance of SC approval after X years or whether it's just some standard letter template.
*

my approval did not have that written
but my file had a chop stating "NS Liability" cause i applied as spouse while my wife is main
so i am now a liability to NS laugh.gif laugh.gif

@hokin

@Sean

Thanks for the insights guys, i'm a cooking kinda guy as when i lived in AUS i did alot of cooking it was just my way of life i don't think constant hawker food is healthy

I agree with the living like a foreign labor part, i'm coming here to SG for experience as well as to enjoy my life and coming home to a nice place at least is the bare minimum i need. So long as my room/toilet is clean i dont really mind the other area's of the place.

I've contacted a few agents fingers crossed i can get a condo at aljunid for 850.

I came up with a rough budget with my salary feed back would be great.

Rent/pub- $800-1k

Phone-$50

Transport -$60

food $20 p/day -$600 my thoughts here are i can eat fancy sometimes but just don't spend to much on other days to accommodate for the day i do spend a bit more on a meal out

leisure (activities/gym/shopping/etc):$400

Savings:$1k

Thoughts? I plan for it to be like that generally and adjust as i live and see how much i would spend
*

erm..any reason why do u insist on paying premium for condo?
since u say u just need a bare minimum, why condo when in a hdb, u also get a room and a toilet?

QUOTE(jitshiong @ Apr 24 2013, 08:33 AM)
my opinion in red above
*

not sure if using prepaid to call back will be a better option for u or not.
for example, starhub prepaid green 28 only cost u $28 and gives u $100 local calls + $28 international call credit and lasts for 50 days
dialling the 018 to penang is charged under local calls.
but there is the hassle of holding 2 phones laugh.gif laugh.gif

Hi,
I'm graduating sooner and able start working on August. I'm still confuse that I should work at Penang Or start in construction field. Any idea or advice? Getting SGD 3k compare to MYR 3K is really make me headache.  doh.gif
*
RM3k vs SGD3k gives you headache?
then I would recommend you to stay back in hometown.
you are not ready to leave your comfort zone...probably never will.

most people here are concerned whether they would be underpaid.
most fresh grad having such offer would jump on it without a 2nd thought due to the amt paid and exposure.
here, you are in a dilemma which means it is due to leaving your comfort zone.

many people want to come to sg, i am just showing my part of the world.

it ain't fancy like yours, but it is real. so why not let people know it ain't going to be rosy for everybody?

so typical. kthxbai.

just in case u still feel down...most of us went through that phase too laugh.gif laugh.gif
Just pick yourself up and show to those who look down on you that you are not going to victimized.
back home, we were discriminated because of religion and skin color...what we did was to move here to be appreciated.
if this company does not appreciate you, find another that does.
just understand this...discrimination will happen no matter where you are.
