QUOTE(jitshiong @ Mar 11 2013, 11:56 AM) Asking for deposit upfront, painted a great picture with lawyers involved. Before you stay you need to pay deposit and first month rental then only they will give you key, give money and take key at the same time., is not like that ? Luckily i'm smart enough to plant some bait for mistakes. Well, best is not to pay upfront la. Then should be quite safe. |

Hi, this might be slightly off topic but I hope I can get some good advice here from fellow Malaysians in Singapore. I just received my PR status in Singapore but with a young son, I know that he will have to do his NS here unless I give up PR status before he turns 16. I was wondering if there are any Malaysians here who have done their NS service in Singapore or know of Malaysian relatives who have done their NS here, and who can advise me as to whether:
1. if Malaysians get "tekan" more than Singaporeans in the NS by the instructors, seeing that Singaporeans seem to be getting more xenophobic about PRs now; 2. if its advisable to renounce my son's PR before he's 16 in order to avoid wasting 2 years of his life in NS (some Singaporean friends have told me that if given the opportunity, they would prefer not to do their NS); 3. is there any advantage to doing his NS other than the ability to stay on to work in Singapore (we are planning to send our children overseas for studies and hopefully for them to work overseas, unfortunately, to join the growing Malaysian Brain Drain). Thank you. |

Thought can survive with Malaysian status, but more expensive, and harder to get in the school you want. If renounce at 16, maybe will affect application for PR or work permit next time, eat up the PR benefit then don't want contribute, sure put in record one. If can foresee he never come back SG to work then can don't care, rip the benefit and run.1. if Malaysians get "tekan" more than Singaporeans in the NS by the instructors, seeing that Singaporeans seem to be getting more xenophobic about PRs now; 2. if its advisable to renounce my son's PR before he's 16 in order to avoid wasting 2 years of his life in NS (some Singaporean friends have told me that if given the opportunity, they would prefer not to do their NS); 3. is there any advantage to doing his NS other than the ability to stay on to work in Singapore (we are planning to send our children overseas for studies and hopefully for them to work overseas, unfortunately, to join the growing Malaysian Brain Drain). Thank you. I got one junior, Indonesian, came here to study secondary, and they invite him to take up PR when he in uni before graduate. He took it, need to do NS after graduate... If you can choose for your sons to stay Malaysian without PR, need to expect this. |

QUOTE(xenotzu @ Mar 11 2013, 03:18 PM) is there any advantage to doing his NS other than the ability to stay on to work in Singapore renounce PR to dodge NS, 99.9% will never be able to get any form of work permit or PR in the future liao. You can "plan" for them not to come back to SG in the future, but are you sure your son will be elite enough to get a job in US, UK, Canada, etc? |
