QUOTE(jasperng @ Sep 10 2007, 02:44 PM)
Hey guys,

I have checked the course which i have desire to pursue ( Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and I realized that the modules in UK Campus are different than the modules in Malaysia Campus. I ask this simply because I was told that the qualification being issued in Malaysia Campus is the same as the qualification that being issued in UK Campus. Thus, I think it is reasonable that both of the course should have the same modules. Below are the links to both official website:

http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/prospectuses/u...0429&mod_year=1

http://www.nottingham.edu.my/electrical/undergraduate.html#6

Anyone has any idea why there are differences?
*
Correct me if I'm wrong. This happens due to lack of lecturers. For instance in Computer Science school, there are certain modules which are available here but not in UK, and vice versa. Reason being, there's no lecturers who are able to teach these modules. Another reason, there is no market demand for those modules.

However for examination grades, given grades are based on UK standard. Usually students will received two results, which are before being checked with Nottingham UK and another one after checked with Nottingham UK grades (being standardized). Sometimes your grades will decrease and sometimes will increase. The grades you received after being standardized is are your actual grades. cool2.gif

QUOTE(eXPeri3nc3 @ Sep 10 2007, 10:04 PM)
After standardisation? Does that imply that Malaysian marking standards are not really on par with UK marking schemes? whistling.gif
*
It needs to standardized because in our degree it stated there we are graduated from The University Of Nottingham. There's no Malaysia Campus stated. Therefore standardization is required, otherwise our degree will be ...graduated from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. Now that just sucks.

QUOTE(jasperng @ Sep 10 2007, 11:16 PM)
About the mobility program, is it really that we pay malaysia fee to study in UK ?

*
Yes, during second year you are able to study at Nottingham UK while paying the Malaysian Campus' fee. Only during your second year. If you plan to continue and graduate at Nottingham UK, I believe you have to pay according to their price, instead of Malaysia's.

QUOTE(tyc00n @ Sep 10 2007, 11:17 PM)
well...the marking standards are almost the same, but then, malaysia paper is harder than uk paper...that's my 2 cents for ene...I am not joking!!! my marks before the standardization were lower than after... for example, i've got around 60+ for my programming in the 1st sem. However, my marks increased to 70 after their standardization!!! then again, i'm not too sure whether are they standardizing our marks with the uk people, or the lecturers here had a change of thought for leniency....
*
I assume you are doing Computer Science? Well for CSiT, exam papers are tougher than UK, I would have to agree. But not when it comes to business school. Whenever the lecturer decided to follow UK exam paper standards, you'll able to see some unhappy faces among students cry.gif

QUOTE(jasperng @ Sep 10 2007, 11:37 PM)
wow +_+ so many surprises in marking scheme +_+.. lol ... today you get 40 and the next thing you know ,you get 50 ><..
*
Honestly, that's rarely happens. Most of the time your mark will remain the same. I'm not certain for Pharmacy and Engineering school. But for CSiT it's that way (sometimes people do get lucky and their mark got increased). cool2.gif

I think if you take up the mobility scheme, you are not allow to do your final year there. No matter what fees you pay. And you have to be a top student to be eligible.
*
If you're planning to graduate there, it is not consider as mobility program anymore, but rather transfer degree program or something. I have several of my first year classmates who did that. Did their first year here, then continue and graduated at Nottingham UK.

When you plan to do this, I believe you have to pay UK fees commencing 2nd year and later. cool2.gif

What you mean by that? Of course there is. They always have it, well at least since my first year. Just wait, I'm sure it will be hosted at SA building.

Free wifi tak bole guna punyer.. If I remembered correctly they block p2p right? Even if I manage to bypass the blocks the speeds will be most likely disappointing, so I am thinking of hogging the tmnut hospot speed. brows.gif
*
They have never allow students to P2P. I remember when I was in my 2nd year, a final year student was creating a P2P applications but ended up unable to demo using UNiM's network. Pretty sucks eh?

Anyway wishing all the students have a great academic year. I miss being one cry.gif

*
I'm did Introduction to AI during my first year, it was fun alright. I do suggest you to take it. It would certainly be cool if you can implement AI for your final year project

Whose the lecturer by the way? Is it Dr. Payam? If it's him, then worry not. He's the best there is. Trust me cool2.gif

EDIT: My first year was 2004 btw.

Vanitha doesnt knows how to teach..all she knows is to read the lecture slides and dump whole lotta papers for students to read...

Thomas Towey has been one of the best lecturers i ever had during my studies..besides Dr Tony Watson in Uk
*
Haha. Everyone have the same thought. Well me as well regarding Vanita. But during my final year, her HRM class was actually good. I was impressed.

...and who is Thomas Towey? Thomas the Scottish guy?
