Look at the fact sheet of United Emerging Markets Bond (look from FSM SG website). As at end 28-Feb, portfolio yield is only 5%.

Hwang Select Bond - 4%+
United Asian Bond - 4%++

By next week I'm plonking a large chunk into equity funds, balance (less than 20% of the chunk) just to add Hwang Select Bond into my portfolio since I've sold Hwang Select Income.

Lucky i got rid of all emerging bond fund last year, got a not so good feeling. sweat.gif

Wait, if that's the case, even 45/55 seems quite overly overweight bonds oredy...should I straightaway move to 60/40? hmm.gif sweat.gif rclxub.gif

The wonders of discussion/brainstorming, u could end up blurting out things that u would not have thought of on your own biggrin.gif thumbup.gif

Pinky, after all these years of investment, there are many cycles on which category of investment will excel. We just donlt knwo until the theme hits. Sometimes it's the bond, sometimes it equity (also depend on country) and at other times commodities, property, gold etc. Trying to chase the high is fruitless, what you need to do is sit down and plan your portfolio weightings and stick to it.

Actually for you, I would suggest having higher equity funds than bonds, but it depends if you can take such risk. Later equity falls, you panic and switch back to bonds how? laugh.gif

Also keep some portion in commodities, real estate... as a partial hedge against inflation. Also be careful not to OVER diversify otherwise you will just perform like an global index...

Unker ar unker...

Size of my UT portfolio has reached a size that I'm fairly comfortable to just let it grow on its own, maybe when certain fund/asset class lags, I will top up on that to rebalance. Focus is now switched to building up my (direct) equity holdings which gives me cash flows in the form of dividend income.

Based on current economic climate, I actually (tentatively) decided on 45 equity/55 bonds, cos even though equities are more attractive vis-a-vis bonds, I believe there should be a correction soon, that is when I will go neutral i.e. 50/50.

Apa macam? Lu rasa boleh jalan bo? unsure.gif

Real estate? I got 50% share on my home laugh.gif
*
Well timing the market is dangerous loh...

But what to do sometimes hand itchy need invest..... so make sure you invest in fundamentally sound stocks.. wink.gif

Invest in direct stocks needs 100x the work and research of investing in UT. So make sure you are ready to invest the time and effort.

Remember EPF can be consider bond as well... tongue.gif

Aiyo, if the correction never comes, just keep at 45/55 til the cows come home lo laugh.gif

Yeah, UT just need to read news, get a feel of the general economic climate.

Stocks...need to study the companies...that's why I prefer consumer/non-cyclicals sweat.gif
*
Consumer also have good stocks and bad stocks. Good stocks now can be bad stocks later, and vice versa. Consumer stocks can also be overpriced....

Not necessary consumers stocks = safe. Never assume that. And stocks perceived to be 'safe' like nestle is very expensive, have slow growth....and over bought.

Stocks not only need to study the company, but you need to constantly monitor as business climate can change.

Stocks also can have many plays...

high growth...

dividend growth...

high dividend...

asset play...

value play...

I consider EPF as bond because you cannot take out the value for many years and cannot realize gain, in the mean time you just take the dividends, Does that not look like bonds to you?

Well not bad selection. Remember that investing in stock market can be euphoria...when the economy downturn comes it will test your strength as your stock values will be more or less free fall. That is when it will test your mettle.

As commonly said, need to pay tuition fee before can succeed ... laugh.gif I assume you have paid your share of tuition fee already, then you are on ypour way to invest in stocks... wink.gif
