 how to identify console is slim or not?

but the hdd is NOT compatible for both, right?
as far as i read, hdd slim is for slim only, and vice-versa, correct?

The HDD caddy is different. HDD is still the same.

Yes, officially that's right. Hdd slim is meant to be use for slim only while hdd fat is meant to be use for fat xbox 360 only because of the different in casing size.

Unofficially, there are tons of tutorials on how you can break the casing of fat hdd and use in slim xbox 360 smile.gif
