Edifier H850 Hifi Headphone Review By Akabane@Drjackel


In the middle of November 2012, Bro Edifier forum member of forum.Lowyat.net is send a message me about this Headphone which is a new technology and new innovative and solely owned made by Edifier company itself. This H850 Hifi Headphone is develop together with the famous musician “Phil Jones”. Well I’m very excited and ask any changes to listen on it. So he did sent a unit to me for a review on this headphone. On the 5th December 2012 a courier service reached to my house and passed over this packaged.






So to cut it short let me tell you what is my personal impression on this headphone on designed and structured. When I was unboxed this unit the first impression is that wow!!! Looks classy boxed and a nice packaged too. Is impressive that look like very elegant style of headphone I would says. Surprise me when I saw this headphone is gave a first impression of portable and is not bulky. The headphone pad is much comfortable and the headband is really nice leather made which you can feel much relaks. The first sight of wear it much surprise me and is it isolated well and does fit my ears very well. Beside the looks and shaped, I also surprise this headphone cable is detachable. I wonder how far this headphone will go if we had another custom cable is made by DIYer?? This is good for Audiophiler improvement. Well the stock cable is much high quality cable and is elastic rubber and is not easily torn which terminated with gold plated mini jack. The headphone also comes together with a gold plated converter from mini to 1 ¼ inch plug.












Let me start of some simple stuff and gadget that I will pair up with this headphone for my review:-

-David Guetta (Clubs)
-Songs from 80-90s (Pop/Rock)


Above is some minor I guess some you will know what kind of impression I will take off. Let me tell you what is the characteristic on this headphone for the first place. I’m telling you this headphone is not layback signature neither bright or forward signature. But is “BALANCE” signature. This headphone does not lack on bass either but if you are bass head you my consider it. For more detail I will go further on portable and desktop setup that I did.


Vocal :-

- My reference of source music I would choose my fav tested sourced which usual are Celine Dion voice. The voice department is much focus in this headphone if you have a right source of amps on it. It doesn’t need much power of the amp but focus on what you need type of amp. Whether is layback or bright type of amp.(This is depend on individual). You will find a nice starter of the song to present especially in vocal. I would say is crispy sound and is with the right emotional and is very clear in this department. This is recalled me on my Audio Technica ATH-M30.

Instrumental:-

- Instrumental is always a challenged for headphone I would says. This headphone is much surprise me with the balance and the separation tone which produce in every single instrument is a very clear positions. For those who love instrument like guitar or percussion music this is most suitable for it.

Classical:-

- Classical is mostly in a huge group of Instrumental group or live. I would say this headphone is can carry in certain amount of instrument position which consider great. Some might dull in the sense of music when there is a force of sound is the same time. For those who love double bass or violin this shot is great with a great shadow or decay.

Clubs:-

- Have you ever listened to David Guetta-Titanium in a very details instrument and combination of vocal? This fast track song is much surprise when I did finish the whole track while I’m enjoy this headphone presented. Surprise this headphone does not poke your ear even a single. Bass is not break even though this headphone even burn in the first place when I try this piece of track. This is makes me feel awesome the day. I’m still remembered the first sight of this. Even now the headphone is already burn-on more than 500 hours.

Pop/Rock:-

- I would love this easy listening music for this genre even is a rock. I would say this headphone is fast and is not slow. Rock is good and suitable. Of course Pop department are well but certain high of sound it may sound dull. Maybe will improve more after burn-in more the headphone? Or suitable amps? The emotional is more came in when the fast paces of rock is driven so do as Pop music. For those who listen everyday pop music with any kind of language this headphone is handle very well.

Conclusion of my review:-

Overall of this headphone is much on balance type headphone and with a good separations sound. Speed/accuracy of sound is much surprise. For entry level studio workshop this is a one of the suitable or choice in the market. For portable wise user, is suitable for using in public in bus or train. I been using for a month as portable for my daily routine to work. Isolation wise is good. Is a closed can so surrounding people won’t hear what you a listen but is depends on your volume you using. This headphone is not pricy and affordable for everyone. I would also like to suggest, if this headphone come with pouch will be a great. I also want to thanks Bro Edifier for sent me a unit for my review.

Comparing with Goldring dr150? With or without customs cable?? But then again is different characteristic. If origin of DR150 is the tone is not quite lay back, nor is it aggressive.

Bro i tell you the most budget headphone H850 wheres you can have a difference genre supports.

I saw this headphone on sale at Lowyat Plaza. Rm120+ or something. Really worth its price tag or a lot more?

Good! We need more affordable quality headphones!

Search around and you might find them for RM95 in a certain shop in lowyat plaza.

Heard them before, I'd say yeah worth the price.

how much is it the original? is there any fake in the market?

How do you compare this to superlux hd681 evo? I want to buy either one these.

Just bought this Headphone, I must say every details is being heard. Although I think normal people wont feel much changes but there is bass.
But I heard everything.

The bass is there but my phone definitely can't drive the bass. Sound so different on PC vs computer.

hi, i just bought this headphone recently. just wondering if any owner out there encounter a problem of having some annoying squeaking sound (coming out from between the headband and the ear-cups) whenever there are slight movements? just a slight turn of my head will result in some crackling squeaking annoyance.

somehow, the edifier H840 version doesnt have this problem. i thought it would be the same for H850.

is this a known problem? or did i just got myself a lemon unit?
