Hello everyone! I'm very happy to say that I'm now an LG Nexus 4 user. Bought the 16GB version from satu gadget dot com at menara pgrm for RM1399 for AP set with 2 years warranty.

So, I figured there are 2 versions of Nexus 4 OEM bumper. 1 with chrome buttons, 1 without chrome butttons, just plastic. Am i right? please correct me if im wrong.
*

i read whole day about flashing room, and the kernel stuff... still not clear with it.....
need some tips from guys....

i thought Nexus run very stock android roms already, and still have better roms to flash over?

and about kernel, the big advantages is BATTERY SAVING n HEAT REDUCING..

nexus stock ROM and kernel is already very good... u dont really need to install custom ROM / kernel unless u need specific features...

for example, if you want some battery saving and reduced heat, you can undervolt the CPU. stock kernel wont allow u to do that. custom kernel, u can change anything u want.

another example, color calibration, LG and google is not doing a very good job here... custom kernel allow u to tweak the color to your liking

however, those are advance features and may not make much difference for most people. you should only do it if you know what you are doing.
*
OK..... Thanks
Haha, last phone was apple mah, no idea what is kernel ROM bla bla bla........

I just want more battery life, if flash kernel, a lot diff from stock one?
I mean battery......

wow. hope i can flash myself....

i'm now on stock kernel and rom....

so, which is the first step should i look into?
flash the kernel first?
or flash ROM first?

is there any link or information for me to read! i'm totally android noobies.

so far i only know kernel is like bios, controlling CPU, 'motherboard'
ROM is like operating system... am i correct?

to be exact, you need to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery.
with custom recovery you can install zip files and all.

when you install custom rom they're normally rooted and you don't need to root anymore.

and yes, flash gapps cause normally custom roms don't come with gapps.

kernel flashing is optional unless you want to use other kernel like franco, motley, faux123
*
actually i'm more on kernel (just wanna save battery only)

hey, did you know how to update the toolkits?
update from version 1.3 to 1.7

Quote from XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...995688&page=127

GOOGLE NEXUS 4 TOOLKIT AUTO UPDATE V1.7.3 [19TH MAR 2013] AVAILABLE!!

Changelog:
+Updated SuperSu [root] files to V1.25 for all root procedures
+Updated TWRP Touch Recovery to 2.4.4.0
+Fixed Toolkit not Auto Updating properly from Toolkit Settings section
+Added text in drivers section about disabling Driver Signature Enforcement
+Fixed several bugs I encountered after the last run of tests
+Fixed TWRP Recovery booting when CWM Recovery is chosen
+Added text in Model Selection screen to support new builds when available

For people who do not want or cannot get the Auto Update versions you can download 4.2.2 from http://goo.im/devs/mskip/stock/occam...y-345dc199.tar and flash it via the Toolkit. You can download TWRP 2.4.4.0 from http://goo.im/devs/mskip/recovery/google_nexus4/ and flash it via the Toolkit. You can also update from adb files for 4.2.2 by downloading http://goo.im/devs/mskip/toolkit/adb..._for_4.2.2.zip and overwriting the files. SuperSU can be updated to the latest version from the app.

[Auto Updates are only accessible if you have donated to the Toolkit project, received an activation code and unlocked the professional features. Auto Updates are a much faster and easier way of pushing small updates that would otherwise not be worth doing. I can push a single textual change or add support for a new build without having to go through the whole process of building a full version and uploading a large file. IF you are not able to or do not want to donate to unlock the Auto Update feature (and other professional features) then all the smaller updates are collated and a full build made when I have time or if there are enough updates to warrant it. This is the easiest way to make sure all the Toolkits are as up to date as possible. IF you have any views about this please pm me about them and do not post in the open thread]

Mark.
