sorry to revive this thread, but i need you guys help..currently looking for suitable speaker yet affordable for my xbox 360... affordable means a student can afford one la...i'm thinking about getting 5.1 but i guess it's damn hard to get 5.1 speaker with optical...and i can't afford those logitech z5500 (£180)...if i get those normal 5.1 pc speaker like logitech x-540 and hookup with a 5.1 decoder, will i get true surround? (you can call me noob in this audio thingy)..currently playing my xbox 360 "bisu"...any ideas are welcomed. thanks.

QUOTE(hazardcradle) i guess it's damn hard to get 5.1 speaker with optical Actually it's damn easy to get 5.1 speakers with optical ;x ... just depends on budget only ;x If you are really budget I guess you could buy a cheap 5.1 computer speaker set, and then buy a sound card with optical input & dolby digital decoding. Or you could do what I did -- I got myself a Pioneer HTP-330 for RM900. Problem with budget hi-fi's is that they typically don't have the complete 5channel analog input, so you have to buy a soundcard with Dolby digital Live encoding to get 5.1 audio from your computer as well. at sg rented room i use Logitech 5400THX. pc, ps3 and x360 all connected to it.
at jb my house i use denon av reciever (cheap one), lcd tv and ps3.
downside.. when my gf watching h.264 movie playback on my pc.. i cannot get sound when i'm gaming. i wish it can alter the sound www in both way, 1 to the speaker and another 1 to headphones.. i love that if it happen. then i dont have to buy another reciever.. which is a waste..z
