Mine is hooked up to Sony's HT-DDW670 Home theater in a box speakers. It's not the best but it's cheap (RM999, I got it for free) and good enough to save myself in GRAW.

QUOTE(arj @ Apr 3 2006, 05:52 PM) this is going to be a super long post but here goes...i'm using the 700 series (they sound good but everyone is giving me flak about how old fashioned they look, hey maybe i'm just old fashioned).... here's some info on the 700 series that i shamelessly lifted from the B&W website... QUOTE Setting a new standard for this premium sector in both performance and design, the 700 Series comprises seven speaker models for both audio and home theatre applications. The choice starts with two floor-standing models (703 and 704) and one stand-mount model (705) for main speaker duty. Specialist centre (HTM7) and surround (DS7) speakers and two formidable subwoofers (ASW700 and ASW750) complete the line-up. All models, with the exception of the DS7, are available in a choice of five real wood veneers - Maple, Cherry, Rosenut, Walnut and Black Ash - with main and centre models featuring curved one-piece top and front panels. The DS7 comes in a choice of black or white painted finishes. The FS-700 speaker stand supports the 705 and the HTM7 centre speaker at the optimum listening height and is available in all black or in a combination of silver pillars with grey base and top. It's attention to detail that makes these speakers stand out from the crowd. To our already impressive portfolio of technologies, we have added improvements to both driver and cabinet design that genuinely improve the listening experience in terms of accuracy of tonal character, resolution of fine detail and presenting a realistic sound stage between the speakers. source: B&W link |

Xeno : that set doesn't have a decoder, you can't use it with the 360 on it's own. You need an amp/decoder

Can't Xeno just plug those speakers to the TV connectors (either audio out or headphones jack) without going thru an amp (since those speakers already have built-in amp)?

For TV, i dunno which one is which ? those speakers were creative labs' attempt to bring surround to the PC with the vibra 4d card before they have sb live with dolby digital 5.1. one jack is for front L/R and the other is rear L/R. no offense but i think those rear speakers are practically useless without a PC sound card. u cant get surround on a game console since the analogue output is only stereo RCA. even if u were to hook it up to 5.1 analogue RCA (on a dvd player for example), u'd be missing the center channel and the subwoofer LFE. a receiver/amp can simulate a dolby pro logic setup with only 4 speakers by channelling the center to front L/R but your speakers are already powered, cant hook it up to amp. you can buy RCA/3.5 jack splitters to jack both connectors in, all 4 speakers will have sound, but its not surround. |

Update: I am using a pair of Sequence speakers which powered by a Yamaha RX V49-2 amp DTS AV. Speakers are about 38" tall and 9" width and only 2.5" in depth. Alas.. not enough BASS.. hehehe This post has been edited by Evirober: May 4 2007, 12:43 PM |

5.1 not appropriate? You need to experience it man. You will make it appropriate once you knew what you're missing. |

QUOTE(verced @ May 7 2007, 04:27 AM) hmm....its totally diff things since the xq100 is a HTIB.....,..I really luv that z680,...but i find that the woofer sometimes can be a little bit "un-click" la......and i just love the look of xq100........plus, the sound is more more subtle/refine..... .but overall....both are great speakers............ p.s:when i say "un-click",..i mean its a bit loose sometimes....especially when a lot of explosion happening... QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Apr 9 2008, 02:09 PM) finally, a thread about sound on xbox 360... does your 5.1 speakers have optical input? if they have, u can connect the x360 via optical cable.Since I had my console, I never knew how to connect my 5.1 Surround Speakers for PC to my Xbox 360... or should it go to the TV ? if the speakers don't have it, u need a decoder, so u connect the speakers to the decoder, and the decoder to your x360. |

Wow, good job resurrecting an almost one-year-old thread
@defaultname ... more accurate would be, does your computer speakers have a built-in dolby decoder (i'd say vast majority of 5.1 pc speakers doesn't)? |

Still using Logitech Z-680, does wonders for my Astro viewing, and of course playing game.
The 5.1 of Z-680 is enough to help me "bully" people in COD4. You always know the direction of people coming to you. |

I don't see why you need external speakers.There's nothing wrong with the built-in ones.They're nice,crisp,and bassy. |

BTW, my 5.1 surround speakers is just the normal cable, the red, green, you know, for PCs input... whatever its called... |

sorry to revive this thread, but i need you guys help..currently looking for suitable speaker yet affordable for my xbox 360... affordable means a student can afford one la...i'm thinking about getting 5.1 but i guess it's damn hard to get 5.1 speaker with optical...and i can't afford those logitech z5500 (£180)...if i get those normal 5.1 pc speaker like logitech x-540 and hookup with a 5.1 decoder, will i get true surround? (you can call me noob in this audio thingy)..currently playing my xbox 360 "bisu"...any ideas are welcomed. thanks.

QUOTE(hazardcradle) i guess it's damn hard to get 5.1 speaker with optical Actually it's damn easy to get 5.1 speakers with optical ;x ... just depends on budget only ;x If you are really budget I guess you could buy a cheap 5.1 computer speaker set, and then buy a sound card with optical input & dolby digital decoding. Or you could do what I did -- I got myself a Pioneer HTP-330 for RM900. Problem with budget hi-fi's is that they typically don't have the complete 5channel analog input, so you have to buy a soundcard with Dolby digital Live encoding to get 5.1 audio from your computer as well. at sg rented room i use Logitech 5400THX. pc, ps3 and x360 all connected to it.
at jb my house i use denon av reciever (cheap one), lcd tv and ps3. downside.. when my gf watching h.264 movie playback on my pc.. i cannot get sound when i'm gaming. i wish it can alter the sound www in both way, 1 to the speaker and another 1 to headphones.. i love that if it happen. then i dont have to buy another reciever.. which is a waste..z |
