They care about money, as pretty much every other car maker apart from Saab. Customers who are willing to buy terribly unsafe cars tell manufacturers, hey, it's ok, we don't care. For example: The Camry 2.4 had VSC. The 2.5 didn't. Why? Toyota made a survey and found out, their customers don't care. So Toyota removed it. Toyota manages to sell D segment cars without VSC and only 2 airbags. Competitors at similar price tags offer much more, including VSC and 6 airbags, and they hardly sell. The most popular cars are pretty unsafe cars, far behind competitors, and they often aren't even the cheapest.

Try to sell a Malaysian spec Camry in Australia. The sales figures would be hovering around 0. Toyota wouldn't dare to offer it there. Like they wouldn't offer the Avanza there, or anywhere in the western world.

If you stop buying crap, they will stop making it. Simple. When Europeans stopped buying unsafe cars, car manufacturers improved. When EuroNCAP started doing side impact tests, and people paid attention to the results, manufacturers fitted side airbags and curtain airbags, because not having those things would be bad for sales. There are no rules or regulations (in Germany at least) stating how many airbags you need, or that you need ESP. People saw the first A class topple over (was on TV all the time). Mercedes immediately reacted and fitted the car with ESP (like Proton fitted a second airbag on the Saga after disaster struck). Demonstrated it, and since it became a standard in more and more cars, because people actually want it and are willing to pay for it/not willing to pay for a car without. You can actually, right now, buy a car without ESP in Germany. Perfectly legal. It doesn't even have airbags. Not sure if there is ABS. Not many do, of course, but you could. (It's the Lada Niva btw., a mountain goat of a car. Think Range Rover, without the luxury or price tag. And smaller. Will go over anything). Dacias are traditionally offered without ESP (can't even order it I believe), and only 2 airbags, though more are optional. They are very, very cheap though, and at least get 3 stars. Some people are willing to buy them (or forced to...). But because these cars are dirt cheap. No one would buy a new car with only 2 airbags, when the rivals which are just as good have 6, at the same price. I don't they would do it even if it had a BMW badge.

Katanya, pasangan suami isteri itu dan pemandu Proton Saga meninggal dunia akibat kecederaan parah di kepala dan badan.

i might be slow but to see this head to head collision between these might change malaysian perpective towards non local car esp. vios..

if u read the report regarding the accidents, there are 5 people in vios and 1 in saga..eventhough this two car weight is almost same sub 1000kg, five people in vios vs 1 in saga means whole vios weight about +-200kg more than saga thus more momentum carry by this vios compare to saga thus the collision force is greater on saga compare to vios since the impulse force is vice verse the momentum carried.

the more severe damage shud be expected on saga but if u see carefully the vios is not good either..Hmm we are not talking bout saga BLM here but the saga kereta kebal..isit GOA body of vios is overated..pic attached for better view..please discuss
