Hi, just as i was about to make an order for Ipad mini. A quick google search at a possible Ipad mini 2 brought up quite a number of results stating the supposedly ipad mini 2 retina display is already under mass production.

It may still be early stages though, and the rumours may be false afterall. However judging by the number of sites coming up with the exact same news, the next ipad mini looks like it will come with the following specs,

1 Retina display with over 300 PPI.
2 Thicker body to accomodate bigger battery.
3 A5X processor and quad core GPU

and will be launched at either March/June/October.

Here is the thing, Apple normally either phase out the current model (as with ipad 3) or they drop the price of the older model, at around RM300. However, are we really going to see the ipad mini being priced at RM699 once the 2nd gen ipad mini is launched? Or, the ipad mini will be phased out few months after launched just as the Ipad 3.

Or is Apple going to price the new ipad mini at RM1299? Something they have never done before. Looking at the spces of the new ipad mini, is it possible for it to be priced at RM999?

Im just asking for some guesses and opinions here. If this thread is unnecessary, please inform me.

However, i bought the ipad 3 two weeks before they launch the ipad 4. Once bitten, twice shy. Since this is considered a huge upgrade in specs over the current mini, I don't wish to buy an ipad mini tomorrow only to discover the new model launching in a few weeks, or maybe a couple of months.

It all depends what ure gonna do with the ipad.

Looking at where ipad 5 has gone and how apple tend to set standards etc.
Ipad mini 2 and ipad 5 will most probably be a 16:9. So yes ure gonna get HD if thats true. They normally dont just go for 720p but will jump. Many are hopping 1080p on the mini and 1440p on the ipad. Theres a chance we will see a new design. The current one is still based on ipad 2.

Pricing wise it will replace the existing price model. U must be thinking how is it possible. Google and check how much apple makes on per idevices. Its a bucketload on margin.

the question now is the size. I expect it to be longer and follow suit on how the iphone was. The amazing par is how thin will be it. With idevices etc getting thinner. expect something amazing.

BTW if u have used a6 proccessors. its blazing fast. the a6 speed on iphone 5 is staggering fast compared to a ipad 3 a5x.

i had a ipad 3 for quite sometime nearly a year and so did my wife. but i jumped to ipad 4 because of the storage of 128gb and wife just loved the speed of ipad 4 and also jumped to it.

so its not the question of what the morrow brings. Its the question on whether the current tech will satisfy ure current need and atleast a years need. Just forget about whatever is being released. My better half and i use homesharing a lot and the 5ghz 150mbps is what we needed. Chances are will skip ipad 5 if its not a 16:9.

To be fair, the sreen is less of my concern. Im currently using the ipad 2 and having come from a Nexus 7 with a visibly higher resolution screen, the screen does look perfectly acceptable for me. In fact i will be more than happy with just a 720p. My only worries and one of my biggest usage of a tablet is gaming performance. I've saw games like Nova 3 suffering from certain degree of lagginess on an ipad mini. If this current mini is going to run all those games that will be released from now until next year, i will have no complaints and buy this straight away.

Patience till dec/jan till malaysia store to gets it n then u will start a thread on ipad mini 3 etc.

Think u dont get it. When apple increases screen reso. They give one heck of a processor to run it. 720p a5x would do do. y bother putting a a6 ,a7 on it. ipad is not like iphone. So far apple lineup on all ipad is reso up, cpu up.

logically they will increase the price. a lot of sites are saying the product cycle for Apple is 6 months and that's why they're predicting it to come out in March/April. I myself am waiting for Ipad mini 2nd gen.

Ya I too feel they would increase the price rather than maintaining it. though no one seems to agree on this.

The thing is the current iPad processor might not be good enough to satisfy my usage. normally I won bother and wait for newer product. but then right now I might be spending RM999 on something which might not be good enough for my usage, at the same time which will depreciate greatly in maybe a month time.

Retina or not, doesn't bother me at all.

The current ipad mini can say it's a handy device to bring around with its smaller size, The display on the mini, I think it's acceptable display to read on. Not sure why apple didn't think of putting retina on the mini in the first place. I'd buy mini now and in October buy the new later =) give away the current one to wife/gf.. Also can like this.

I think they will either phase out or price the new ipad mini higher.
Selling at RM699 doesn't seems like Apple style as they never want to sell their products cheap.

I would hope they build in a 1Gb ram than all as it would sufficient to handle crashes..retina doesn't bother me, as long as no sacrifaction of battery juice laugh.gif

Hi ChauKeng.
What's the iOS pre-installed on the iPad mini when it arrived?
I'm wondering if the A5 processor is capable of handling iOS 6 well and if it can, I'm wondering if it'll have trouble producing the juice needed for iOS 7 and beyond.

iOS 6.1.2 is preinstalled. Only can feel minimal lag sometimes in home screen. Whereas gaming so far has been performing without any problem. That was one of my worries aswell. But I'm sure Apple will at least give he mini an update for 1 or 2 years maybe? unless they give the OS a huge overhaul then it shut be good enough I guess.
