Yeah use the laptop DVD-ROM to play shorten its lifespan only and it's not cheap to replace.

Depends on model also.. those which have TV output can play videos on the TV screen but if there is no TV output you got to get another external coverter to convert the VGA port to the RCA/S-video port.

How much and where to buy this "external converter"?
Is there a proper term for it?

To play DivX files on home DVD Player you'll need a DivX compatible player or convert the files into DVD/VCD format and burn them into DVD-Video disc or VCD.

Thanks but I already know that method. I want to use the lappie to play the file and viewing it on my tele. Using S-Video out or something. I have the port but I don't know how to use it....

your graphic card driver SHOULD have the option to toggle the S-Video output.

make sure you have S-video cable to connect to TV as well.

Yes, same question as Sotong. Already have the cable, so it is plug and play or will have to be enabled first?

Lappie mostly got FN+F? shortcut keys to toggle between LCD display mode and S-Video out mode. Some got 3 modes. 3rd mode is on both screen output. It's all in your lappie manual.
