QUOTE(Wholleymolley @ Feb 19 2013, 04:34 PM) Wah, nice model I think the bokeh is a bit too much, abit dizzy and some parts of the model become blurred, especially for 4 (or is it the weird pose?) I especially like 5 and 6, got feel, though still a bit too much bokeh even though it sort of fits the "time warp" theme Keep it up~~ |

TS, don't mind me saying but the bokeh is really on the could-have-been-better side.
I'd like to point out that this lens generates very distracting bokeh and this is kinda strange for an 85mm lens as 85mm lens design have been around for ages and haven't changed much and most 85mm lenses do have decent bokeh. As far as I can tell the bokeh here have these disadvantages: 1. It creates brightline bokeh. This means the lens renders an outline on light sources that is brighter than the rest of the out of focus light source. This in effect creates an outline on almost every out of focus object making the bokeh very busy and distracting. 2. The lens shows coma - which means that the out of focus light source is shaped like a cat's eye instead of a circle. This is also very distracting. Usually by stopping down the lens, the coma can be eliminated. 3. For some unexplained reason this lens renders concentric circles in the out of focus area. This is especially evident if the subject is further from the camera. It makes the background seem to spin. Weird effect. Honestly the first time I opened this thread, my eyes were captivated instantly by that weird bokeh to the extent that I almost did not notice the model. It was only after a while that I noticed that the model is indeed very pretty. That's how distracting it was to me. It completely steered me away from the subject of your shots. For comparison, I have a couple of shots taken with the lens that is the undisputed 'king of bokeh', the Minolta 135mm STF lens: ![]() ![]() This is what is called smooth, pleasant bokeh. |

I find the bokeh to be distracting instead of making the subject stand out in your photo...

i don't know how the bokeh turn up like this... it is not like distortion or what..
