Dear Fortezens,

I'm part of the 1st generation Forte owner (car should be 3.5 years old now, ODO reading 22k mileage due to this is 2nd car, well kept and never encounter flooding inside the car)Below are some of the pictures I forcefully took after I request the mechanic / technician to remove my passenger car seat after I send my car for service yesterday. It all started when I spot the bolt mounting the car belt seat buckle rusty.

Then the mechanic / technician lay the passenger seat on the floor. Even they were speechless. Refer picture below;

Almost the whole carcass of the passenger seat is rusty! Even the spring!

I spoke to the service manager. He said my car warranty over after 2 years. And this is not under the 'anti-rust' as it is not part of the car body. A call to my sales agent, he too gave the same feedback and promise will refer the issue back to his boss. I was told not to take pictures by the service manager and told me that this was an isolated case. No further feed backs from the KIA people and my passenger seat is assemble back to the car. I was told to leave the service centre. All I can do now is probably wait for the rust to spread and damage the lower part of the car body or perhaps anyone can share how I can remedy this serious problem?

My thread is not to bash is just to share my discovery and I do hope it is an isolated case. I even ordered a sportage (2.5 months ago) but I cancelled it due to I have lost confidence in KIA.

Bro Jenn, I am sorry to hear that. I am not sure if it is an isolated case. Senior owner might need to check and see if there are same symptom. If yes, then it will be a big problem. The rust is on surface?can scrape off and put WD40? Then put paint?

Yes, most probably is the ONLY solution to this. Will find time to do it.

1. This is normal due to the frame is not pure stainless steel or titanium...as long its didn't tear off its fine. Even you open up a bucket seat you will see the same thing.
2. The rust is due to the metal frame exposed to heat and moisture (from your aircond and hot sun) therefore surface will rust.

Open up my 10 yr old wira seat, no rust seen. The material quality is very much questionable. Applies to all make and models?
