QUOTE(prophetjul @ Jan 27 2018, 10:20 AM) Likewise, understand what i mean. In MYR, since this is your personal investment. If you were a wage earner in MYR , used MYR to invest in gold, what are your calculated returns in? USD? EPF invests in all, sorts of foreign currency denominated assets. What are their returns reported in? USD? What i mean is when u to compare the performance (CAGR over years) in general, gold quoted in USD should be used. EPF investment is not relevant This post has been edited by Singh_Kalan: Jan 27 2018, 10:33 AM |

You are contradicting yourself. What i mean is when u to compare the performance (CAGR over years) in general, gold quoted in USD should be used. Investing in gold with my personal money, i want to see my returns in MYR terms. That is rather raesonable. As with EPF, their total returns is in MYR terms. |

Guys,....
I don't want to read al the postings above,... Look,... for absolute gain as a Malaysian, any investment should be, at the end of the day, be evaluated in the currency that you need to SPEND the money in,...hence, in this country, in MYR. Of course, if you are going to spend your money in SG or in Aus, then you will evaluate your returns in any investment based on the currency of that country where you are going to spend in,.... What's the point of having investment gains, or maing more money from money ? For spending, right ? I wouldaccept, mathematically, then evaluate in the currency designated. And if we say this,... I would have an even revolutionary idea - I don't think gold investment is great. I think the USD is lousy, that's why gold investment becomes good because with the USD dropping, we require MORE USD to buy the same ounce of gold. That's the reason. It's almost similar in concept with the bs when we said the RM was strong (before the BNM rate hike). The RM was strong ONLY against the USD because the USD was weak. That's the reason !!!! Not our bs RM was strong, back then,.... |

QUOTE(Showtime747 @ Jan 27 2018, 10:08 AM) Yes, different country will have different CAGR, based on the home currency. Why must it be all quoted in USD ? I invest everywhere, directly into the country concerned... but in Msia - I take my total returns in the RM,....All companies take into account of forex gain/loss in accordance to accounting standard. That's why those companies earn in forex their share price shoot up like mad during RM depreciation. Do you deduct the share price because of currency gain ? EPF takes into account the forex gain/loss for their overseas investment - cos they pay dvds to pencarum in RM. Same concept with Petronas. Pencarum in Msia buys in RM. Funds sold in RM take into account of forex gain/loss when they report their CAGR - cos they payout coupons in RM, and redemptions in RM. Investors in Msia buy in RM. Our imported food experience inflation because we buy in RM - cos we buy in RM. Those Zimbabwe people if they have foresight, they would have gain in forex because they can convert their USD back to buy a lot of stuff. You may personally view it differently, but all others do take into account forex gain/loss in terms of base currency |

But I think the reason mainly for political & religion purpose.. That one of the reason why we have Islamic EPF account... Hopefully the differences between the two type is not huge... |

Is overseas investment classified as sharia-compliant? If not, it's little mind boggling how EPF Islamic can make a better return since oversea investment was outperformed.

Time to make guesses on when they will announce the EPF dividend rate.
My guesses are: * 5-9 Feb IF the rate is good/high * 12-23 Feb if the rate is low Tell you early if the news is good but delay it if the news is bad. Ha. |
