Boosting retirement fund

EPF Member’s Investment Scheme an option to enhance retirement savings

FINANCIAL advisors have stressed the importance of retirement planning as early as possible so that one can live a comfortable life after retirement.

One of the apparent benefits to start early is the effect of compounding and that can make a huge difference in one’s retirement fund.

To achieve that desired outcome, planning is important as everyone may have a different goal.

Understanding the importance of giving its members the options to achieve their goals, the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has introduced Member’s Investment Scheme (MIS) in November 1996.

EPF says no minimum 2.5% dividend for syariah-compliant fund

KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF), which is expected to launch a fully syariah-compliant fund by January 2017, will not have a minimum of 2.5% dividend for it.

According to EPF chief executive officer Datuk Sharil Ridza Ridzuan, the 2.5% minimum return drops away when members opt for the syariah-compliant fund.

“Once the 2.5% return drops away, the concept of capital returns or protection also goes away otherwise it would not be syariah compliant,” he said.

Just to recap, whatever amount that is gonna be declared as dividend in about 2 weeks is only gonna reflect for last year's statement . Correct ?
So if one puts in 60K this week, the returns for this 60K will only be based on next year's declaration of dividend rate?
*
The way EPF pays dividend is slightly different.
It is not like the final balance of 2016 will be paid at full rate.
Just Google around and you'll find the EPF mechanism.

A thought (some may say it is STUPID Ha) came to my mind some months ago, to open EPF accounts for my kids who are still schooling. Why? Dividend rate is better than the normal bank FD rate.

Yes, money will be tied up till they retire (some in account 2 they can take out early).

Check with EPF says those above 14 can open EPF ac (not working can also apply).

Like to have your views.

Thanks.

If you're planning for education fund, perhaps can consider SSPN with nominal interest rate of 4%; still higher than normal FD.
You can have tax relief too!

can withdraw from the ut invested by epf ac1?
*
I don't really understand your question.
If you're asking if you could withdraw from EPF Account 1 for unit trust investment, the answer is YES provided certain criteria is met.

1. Min saving achieved and you have excess amount in Account 1 to do so.
Use this calculator: https://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/resea...-Calculator-824

2. Participating or approved funds

3. Do remember that if you plan to sell the fund in near future, the proceed needs to go back to Account 1

The amount that was deposited needs to be in before Feb 2018 for me to enjoy the whole month’s dividend is it not so ?
*
The dividend which is going to declare is only meant for contribution made in 2017 and together with existing balance.
Any contribution made after 31st December 2017 won't be take into 2017 dividend calculation.
Apart from that the way, EPF calculates dividend for your monthly contribution is different and precise.
Contribution made on January 2017 will be entitled for full year dividend rate.
Contribution made on February 2017 will be entitled for 11/12 of the full year dividend rate.
Contribution made on March 2017 will be entitled for 10/12 of the full year dividend rate.
So on and so forth.

Take note, the above dividend calculation is only meant for contribution.
For your existing balance as of January 1st, 2017, they're entitled for full year dividend rate.

Details: https://1-million-dollar-blog.com/how-to-ca...e-epf-dividend/

Hope this clears your worries and concerns about the contribution made this month (January 2018).

If I remember correctly, EPF is using daily balance rather than minimum monthly balance. Best is to ask EPF.
*
Yes. they're calculated using daily basis.
