QUOTE(lookie @ Jan 8 2017, 08:54 PM) As I understand, there is only a minimum contribution percentage enforced, no maximum.Companies are obliged to contribute 12% minimum, but are free to make a higher contribution, as part of their employee benefits. My previous company gave us 15%. As an employee, you can also choose to put in whatever amount on top of the 11% you already contribute. But I suppose the question is: why would you want to do that, especially in recent days when the government is literally squeezing every drop of penny from us citizens? |

Well,... if one does not have any other ways to invest outside of Msian FD, then the EPF's return is still better than FD rates in Msia. |

QUOTE(Showtime747 @ Jan 1 2017, 12:22 AM) I am playing devil's advocate Thanks for the feedback! Good points, especially no. 4. Though I'm not sure if my employer will give me that 13% if EPF doesn't exist. 1. the dividend is quite good (so far), with a guaranteed rate of 2.5% Good in the sense that it is guaranteed by the government (low risk). Bad if you compared to other government guaranteed funds like ASB. And if you willing to take higher risk, then there are better investment returns elsewhere (some 10+% depending on your investment acumen) 2.you're getting 6k tax relief You can get the same 6k relief with insurance. 3. the returns are tax exempted Returns from capital gain is also tax exempt. Dividends from stock is also 1 tier dividend which has no more tax in the hands of stock holder 4. you're getting free money from your employer (12%-16%, depending on where you work) Look at it another way, it is the money which your employer can't pay you because they have to contribute their share to your EPF account. It is imputed in your net salary Other negatives of EPF : 1. It is in RM, which in 2015 and 2016 has depreciated from 3.0 to 4.5 in USD terms. That is 50% depreciation which takes 8+ years of 6% dividend. In another words, 8 years of dividend gone to the drain in USD terms 2. It is money you can't use until 55 y/o. No flexibility 3. Money is lent to government and GLC. You heard the news of how they spend money ? 4. How safe is the guarantee from the government ? 5. If really EPF payout is only 2.5%, it is a bad investment. I think even 4% like FD, everybody will jump and complain. And it might happen very soon |

Yeah, that I agree.Although, if one really intends to better oneself in terms of financial position, then he/she should really invest some time to learn about investing and then manage one's own money, instead of leaving it to the bloodsucking government to plunder. |

QUOTE(hirano @ Jan 6 2017, 10:01 PM) Stopped the Saturday opening some time ago when I wanted to do beneficiary in Selangor. You need to go yourself to one of the EPF offices with your IC and they need your thumbprint. Do not forget your beneficiary details and the % or fraction for each beneficiary. This post has been edited by Deal Hunter: Jan 15 2017, 03:36 PM |

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Jan 15 2017, 10:41 PM) that low? I don't think epf would allow that to happen when the general elections are happening this year. Well already confident of winning election..die die they will inject money into the financial reports like what Tabung Haji is doing to make sure people don't lose faith in the management. Opposition is really weak.. Multiple corners fights.. Ahh also the election boundary thingy.. One signal of lower dividend is ASB Sorry to say this, even bumi only fund can give lowest rate in history, EPF is for open to all.. U can know how will the rate be.. And for what needs to do like TH.. Not that we can withdraw all like TH also.. The money is somehow "locked" unless for approved withdrawal.. |
