I guess many is waiting & see how Shariah performance over the years...

I'm one of them...

Want to see if the dividend would outperform over the years & sustainable or not....

This coming one is everyone waiting....
If actually can outperform conventional or not...
*
Don't care... as it is not guaranteed... that alone is a big deviation from EPF principle. If one wanted a more return they should explore the equity route domestic or foreign.

Finally. We have been talking for ages the RM240k joke. IMO, it should be set to RM500000 at least, but this is at least moving in the right direction. No point to syiok sendiri and found out you are farked when retired.
Gov can now justify to push retirement age to 65.
*
60 too young to shake leg anyway.... but it will have to be managed la on how they implement the 65....

Because the legal retirement age is 60 and epf is a retirement fund.
*
Previously retirement age is 55. I think it’s easier to increase retirement age than the EPF act hence the 55 retirement was never changed. Rather you have that Alain Emas from 55 onwards which you can touch from 60 onwards.

This year's total contribution, better than previous year :

user posted image

Next year will be my last year of working, will go into full retirement mode and starts fully enjoying life before i say goodbye to this world.

Most likely i wouldn't touch the epf money until 60 year old. 60 year old will be the time for me to go wild and spend as much as i could (will leave some money to my brother/sister's kids).

Fuiyoh … that like YTD RM1.6M earning to have that 370k+ EPF contribution

Even minus off max 100k self contribution, that is RM1.1M YTD income

this would only be a hiccup to those younger folks in 30s tp 40s with >1M in EPF.
For the 50+ and above, they will have access to the whole fund by the time this new limits take place.
*
I think those that can hit 1m in EPF by mid 30s, they most likely hi income earner and likely more financial savvy with other financial instruments... at least looking at simple estimation. They probably are well diversified too... and epf may not be their big retirement stream.

I think those folks that come up with increased threshold idea above 1m withdrawal, would expected theses contributors to unlikely to make big withdrawal away... at least majority of them.

that's quite well said.
once one reaches sizeable amount of say RM1mil, the snowballing grows much faster.
if one is still an active contributor, chances are the epf amount will grow at 6 digits annually based on own contribution + dividends received. if the person does voluntary contribution, the snowballing grows even faster.

i think some members even grows their epf by 7 digits every 2-3 years or less.
*
Very true.... money begets money... especially epf guaranteed principal and compounding dividends..... even at 5%....

Heck i even forecast my epf plan at 4%.... I'm not greedy. Anything more than 4% ....me happy camper.

Also for folks that at 50 onwards.... the last 10 years is the earning peak.... the coffer actual RM$ is increasing rapidly...

I'm OK if they increase retirement age to 65 as long as they leave acct emas alone as it is .... tongue.gif infact I'm topping up voluntary contribution

It is fine as long as they don't push the retirement age to 65. 60 is the max i can accept, but 55 is still the perfect number.
*
They can push it 65 or whatever as long as it’s not interfere with current 55/60 EPF access… 😅

If you explore more...

You can see once one were to hit 60yo...

"Suddenly" got so much "expenses" & "stuff" to do.... From spouse, children & even from others families members (siblings, unker auntie, etc )... This the negative side...

Then suddenly... Got calls for so called "good investment" - this one if you fall for it... Your own greed dig your own tombstone 😁

The list goes soooo long....
*
I hope not... cry.gif

Having said that, some expenses will drop. Car HP no more... I hope I can still drive enthusiastically when I'm 70. Probably max out at 75.

Medical cost and insurance coverage premium will increase...

I don't expect any new cost entry.... are there more beside the obvious scam etc.. sweat.gif

Maner la boss dapat 5.5mil ni.

I hit 1m in my late 30's, touching 2m now. annually my contribution ranges around 200k a year.

So rough calc, contribution + dividend 330 x 3 = ~990k.

But I intend to FIRE la.
*
Nice wei... that 330k plus self voluntary 100k = cool 430-450k increase annually ...

My friend recently exceeded 1mil with additional lump sum voluntary contributions....he is mid 40's. Which comes from his liquid funds which are not necessarily for his retirement. Afterall, he is just in mid 40's.

Now it would seem he was cheated and enticed by the EPF scheme, because now the funds will never see the light of day.

Perhaps he should just withdraw everything before the execution of the new limits.

Is he the only one facing this thought?
*
Why the notion that he being cheated? What you talking about the funds never see the light if day...that bollock....

Even without the new belanjawan, he can only touch them at 55 ... like 10yrs later since you said he is mid 40s.

And if new rule implemented, he may or may nor impacted but I'm sure he will hit 2M++ easy peasy in 10yrs.

So what the issues as I'm sure his epf is not only avenue he have given his current progress.

Some interesting details on breakdown of syariah vs conventional ratio.

EPF’s 2024 shariah dividend may exceed 6%, beat conventional savings:: https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/734488

Back then i think i reach 10k in EPF fairly quickly even when my salary was ciput. I started working in 90's. If i remember correctly, in 80's, can get chap fan like for 70 cents when i was a kid. Anyone remember?
*
80s chap fan is like Rm1ish.. for 2 vege 1 meat. Rarely above 1.5

My primary school day. Mid 70s. nasi lemak bungkus is RM0.10 at school.. the same one that cost RM2 today.

We have school feed program where the school provide free meal for the needy. Some time mee Goreng, nasi Goreng, or rice with vege and tofu...

My fave wanton mee is RM0.90 ... double mee is RM1.1
