Wah so many nice brands to try next time.

Thanks for all the recommendations.

My personal favourite was the Johnnie Walker Green Label which has been sadly discontinued.

Now every time I pass by a Duty Free Shop, I'm so confused on what to buy. Most likely will stick to the Glenfiddich or Glenlivet.

I dunno the exact retail price so i juz give u the price i pay when i get it

Glenfiddich 12 rm220 - havana Bar
Glenfiddich 15 rm280 (if im not wrong, at the same bar) havana Bar
Glenfiddich 18 (not sure, my fren bayar, i juz give him rm100) havana bar

Famous grouse rm240 - havana bar

Macallan rm430 - sumwhere at travillion, forgot the name

Johnnie walker rm2xx (black label) most places

Glenmorangie rm2xx - rm3xx

p/s: i only get my fav drink at my fav bar only, wisely priced and a good bar to enjoy the drink.. for other pubs/clubs/etc i prefer ordering JD or other generic brand (i mean easy to find but none in my list), as long as mabuk and can entertain ppl... for personal time with bestfriends, always at havana bar.. hehehehe

Huh, one is RM 8k ,another one is USD 8k, ur brain not working? Even in SG ,its selling for about SGD 3k plus,so u convert its about the same in MSIA.

Anyway, Louis XIII price is about RM8k for the normal edition. And most of them come in 750ml crystal bottles.U can keep it for a few years and sell the bottle off

USD8k is for limited edition lah my friend....That is almost RM 25k for a bottle.

p/s: i only get my fav drink at my fav bar only, wisely priced and a good bar to enjoy the drink.. for other pubs/clubs/etc i prefer ordering JD or other generic brand (i mean easy to find but none in my list), as long as mabuk and can entertain ppl... for personal time with bestfriends, always at havana bar.. hehehehe
*
I plan to build a mini bar for myself in room. With a budget of RM5,000. Now in the list got 30 different items.

There are two liquor shop claimed to be some distributor. Original or not is another question. I think I better go to Giant/Jusco/Tesco/Cold Storage to buy better. At least I don't have to worry about imitation.

Trying to source for the best deal since I am getting 10 bottles or more at one time.

any wine/champagne? if u wanna serve girls and looking for sumthing easy to drink, get asti, bubbly & light.. my wife's fav is martini asti.. martini rosso also can.. but not for wine enthusiast, hehehehe...

Wine and other may be later.

Earlier went to Giant to browse. Johnnie Walker 200 - 300+. Most of the brands listed here cannot find. Limited.

The difference between year is the taste? Still need to learn on tasting.

How long can a liquor keep after the cap is opened?

Diff brand got diff taste for diff year.. some is smoother and some is richer.. they hav diff way to explain the taste in whisky.. i suggest u to read about it at www.scotchwhisky.net

Basically u have single malt and multi grain whisky.. sometime u will also find single grain..

Scotch only for made in scotland.. bourbon for american.. tennessee whisky is american but u dont call it bourbon.. got canadian whisky. Japanese whisky..

The best is, get which taste good to you, there's no real good whisky unless ur tongue say so.. it is personal. Go to a good bar.. try each brand by shot, neat.. sniff, sip, drink.. if u think its good then remember the name..

Once opened, it can last for years, but how long i cant confirm, i was told by my besfren's grandpa, he got nic3 collection in his mini bar..

Keep in mind that aging process took place in the cask only.. once bottled, i Doesnt count.. some seller will trick u example chivas 25 years, since 1945.. only count the stated years, in dis cas3, 25 yr, disregard the 1945 bcoz got no value, unless for limit3d edition..

Naise info there.

Not sure how much they charge per shot at bar. May be expensive. Normally order Guiness draught only.

Martell Cordon Bleu & Macallan 18 selling at RM800+. So expensive leh? 750ml - 1litre only.

The rest are RM100+ - RM200+ no problem.

I haven't visit Tesco, Cold Storage, Jusco and other yet.

Will also need to learn how to mix and taste. rolleyes.gif

single malts are overrated....reason why people blend whisky becoz the single malts are too harsh to drink in the first place.

+1 to this info.

Nitpicking here, but whisky is reserved for scotch. Whiskey with the "e" is anything else (American,Australian,Jap,Irish etc).

Shame most of the liquors in M'sia rely too much on marketing rather than what actually is suitable for our climate/taste.

Brazilian Cachaca
Greek Ouzo
Italian Amaretto, Centerba, Limoncello, Mellone etc etc
French Chartreuse
Turkish Raki

Some of the delicious drinks I imagine sipping on a hot humid night ...

whisky & vodka is all good, but just seems less enjoyable when not sitting in an overstuffed chair, wood fire and ornate decanter on the side tongue.gif

Referring to mareshia, most bars here doesnt have the right glass to serve single malts in the first place, tumbler glass are for blended whiskies... therefore its better to drink blended. Folks here are too used to drink whiskies with mixers and chasers, watching them ruining a good dram.... doh.gif

Store in a cool/dry place (NO SUN EXPOSURE AT ALL) for 3-4 weeks max.

I personally recommend 2 weeks max if you want to preserve the taste.

Any of u guy heard of this brand before 'Prince Hubert de Polignac Cognac'

Friend of mine got for me from KLIA like what 5 yrs ago, still lying in my room, not a big fan of cognac.

Look something like the pic below except for the box, mine is round in shape.

IF we keep like more than 1yr it will lose it taste totally? all XOs come in 700ml at least...Also any one knows where to get cheap liquor in JB?
*
If you keep it more than three months, you've already rendered it unsuitable for drinking. Because air has already entered, hence fermentation/oxidation begins. Unless you can guarantee that the environment you opened the bottle in was cool and dry(not possible in Malaysia), you can't keep it for a year at all. XO is not a health supplement to be kept and consumed over time. It is to be savoured and shared with people whom you value their company immediately.

JB cheap liqour is your one and only Duty Free Zon Area. Smuggling it out is your only hurdle.

I agree with the taste changing after about 3 weeks ... but unsuitable for drinking ? rclxub.gif

If I've any left over whisky / cognac, it will go into my decanter to make my very own special blend. now have a flask of 3 different 18yo single malts thumbup.gif

Yes all cognacs, wines, whiskey (scotch/Irish), and whisky (bourbon/Tennessee/Kentucky) breakdown/oxidise/ferment over time. No idea on vodka or gin though as I've not experimented with them.

It's unsuitable after three months, not three weeks. So technically you've just made your own blended whiskey. Hope it tastes great smile.gif

Personally its 3 weeks (or slightly less than a month) for me to notice the change in flavor. Tennessee whiskey becomes sweeter, any of the Martell cognac gets a watered down feel ... I don't leave too many unfinished bottles that long tongue.gif

Still learning on the self blend, some great some not-so

Where did you hear this from.
I've used to work and manage professional bars for several years and I've never heard of this.
Most spirits are watered down to 40%.
That alone is enough to kill microbes and prevent it from going bad.
Just remember to cap it once you're done drinking to prevent oxidization.
Also remember to store it in a cool and dark room to avoid losing flavor.
Even if you open them you can still keep your liquor for a long time.
Lower alcohol 'liqueurs' might go bad because it contains sugar (and the lower alcohol volume) but it'll still last pretty long.

Oxidize yes, ferment and breakdown no.
Once bottled, they do not ferment any more.
Still if you keep the cap on you can keep it for quite some time.

Paranoid people might put inert gas (I've only used this on wine, which is normal but never on spirits) so it protects the alcohol from oxygen.

2 weeks can felt taste diff and 3 mths like that?
Problem exist between keyboard and chair

I met ppl storing in freezer, to reduce contact with oxygen put liquor in smaller container. Slowing down chemical reaction is key.

All the following buy from a very old shop that's 24 years ++ So the listed liquor all above 24y. But some is special over 56y, 99y and 77y.

1. Billy Vodka
2. Thai Song
3. Winner 77
4. Club 99
5. Red Star 2 Wok Head 56

Red star may be end of list but very rare find, need know supplier one.

Walao boss, almost 2 years ago la my post.. Anyways freezer is a good attempt as it is a cool and dry place. (low humidity is key to slowing down the reaction)

Anyways, I've gave up drinking liquors as I work on site (hot weather). Now I'm into chill beers. Cheers.

Cheers.

Science chemical reaction is directly linked to humidity not temperature? That'd news to me. Lol

Any chemical reaction is of course significantly affected by temperature. However, in this case, humidity also plays a main factor as we are talking about oxidation/decomposing. There's a reason why the recommended storage is always mentioned "cool and dry place".

Cool means temperature between 8-15 degrees Celsius
Dry means relative humidity NOT exceeding 40%

Hence, me agreeing to your point that a freezer works as most freezer environments have very low humidity (water becomes icicles due to 0 freezing temp but alcohol remains fluid due to low freezing temperatures)

Do be more polite in real life, your sarcasm reeks. If you're trying to prove a point, do it professionally; not with a stuck up **** attitude. Much appreciated.

if U cannot take it please kindly ignore my post.
professionally != politely.
its just a forum take things so seriously, u need to drink more chill beer; and thank you for the life lesson.

the science for freezing alcohol and water is complex. Red in bold you make it sound like it will turn slushy.
in bold "a main factor" implies it is the only critical reason. so to have > 40% humidity but cold temps say -10C will still oxides and decompose.
I believe you intend to say humidity is another important factor that we cannot ignore in this equation. freezing temps will slow down chemical reaction, it doesn't stop it, may takes a darn long for someone to notice a difference in taste. however if U can lower the temps down to pt when molecules dont have the energy to start a chemical reaction then no oxidation and decomposing are happening.

A few weeks later, I did my own little scientific test for the freezing point of bourbon. Before going to bed, I stuck a partial bottle outside on the porch. The next morning when I checked it, the liquid was frozen solid. The temperature read -47F.

U tried maotai? Or wuliangye?
I have not tried them before.

Herbal wine, i believe u mean herbal liquor.
Wine alcohol level will be lower than liquor.
Wine not distilled too. Somehow it's lost in translation ju to beer, wine or liquor

A lot of herbal liquor on the market

btw, to all who picked blue label as your fav, are u kidding me ? it tastes almost like green or gold label, but double or triple the price.

i prefer wine nowadays.... can get matured highness.

Craft Method Brandy . Lot-numbered 27. VSOP-level, with a nice admix of older brandies. Colombard is the main component, with pinot noir, riesling, zinfandel – and others. Fresh, light fruitiness, excellent body. Unbelievable quality for the price. Outscored noted cognacs Delamain Pale & Dry and Martell Cordon Bleu in expert blind tastings (1989).

Select Barrel XO –. A blend of some 12 brandies, roughly 80% of the volume pinot noirs. The components are mostly about 17 years old. When we released this brandy (1996), Robb Report Magazins’s expert panel named it #1 in their list of the world’s “Best of the Best” liquors (#3 was the “Richard Hennessy” cognac, currently priced at $3000). Very long and complex finish.
