Getting Started

I'm actually driving a myvi and still new to audio systems. This is how I configure my 4-channel Caliber 2000W amplifier:- 2 channel to my JBL 12" woofer and 1 channel to my front 4" stock speakers. My rear speakers (don't know the size) is connected directly to my original myvi headunit. My problem is sometimes the amp shut down automaticaly and I've got to wait for bout a min for it to switch on back. What's probably gone wrong ? I'm actually in my uni in perak and if possible, I wanna DIY myself. Another problem is that I'm not sure weather this should be the good configuration for an audio system. Any suggestion that you sifus can recogmend me ? Was actually thinking of changing to a better 4" speakers, is it worth it ? coz sayang wanna drill a hole at my door panel.

this is a good setup already... you are on the rite track... 4" speaker are best at vocals... get a 4" component then the sound staging will be lovely for the vocals... but if you wan more mid bass then no idea but to use a 6" mid bass...
bout your amp... i think it is over-heating... have you check whether it is hot when it shuts down? if it is... try to lower the gains for every channel... if the problem still presist then should get an independent amp for the sub...
hope this helps...
cheers...

Lowered my gain ... So far seems to be alright. About my configuration , should I disconnect my rear speakers from my headunit ? I've got a feeling that the sound comming out from my front speakers(amplified) and my rear(not amplified) are different and it sounds kinda weird. btw, wuts the difference between 2ways speakers and 3ways speakers ? Any suggestion on what types of 4 inch speakers should I get for my ride ?

the speaker you mention is component speaker or coaxial? component are consist of one pair of midbass(5"-6") or one midrange(3"-4") or even both of these, passive crossover and a tweeter... each speaker is separated from each other... while coaxial are those speaker that comes in one... one big cone and on top there is those tiny tweeters... usually component are for front fill while coaxial are for the rear fill... IMHO... component sound will win coaxial sound hands down anyday, anytime... provide they are compared from the same range of product...
the sound that are connected to the amplifier will sure sound good as more power are feed onto it and the amp are able to control to cone more effieciently... thats why it produces more details of the song... using an amp to power a speaker will also minimize the possibility of sound clipping...
while our HU which built-in amp are jus 17W to 20W RMS... when you play your music loud... you will get distortion and most of the time, the amp is clipping... so you will hear that the sound weird...
IMHO... you can leave the rear speaker connected to the HU... but if it is interfering with your sound-staging then unplug it...
cheers...

Yea ... I think it got over heated. It usually shut down whenever I switch it on loud for a couple of min and then lower it. Btw , I'm actually using a pair of stock speakers for my front and my rear. My front are normal 4" component speakers I think , and my rear , I'm not so sure bout it (never open it before). Actually added a 120W pioneer tweeter to the front. Now I'm actually planing to change the front 4" speakers. Any suggestion ? I might change the tweeters also , don't sound nice to me. Btw , I also would like to thank you all for sharing with me your experiance

if you wan to change the tweeter and the 4"... then my suggestion would be change it to a component set... and power them with your amp...

if entry level component sure can la... it needs around 5W RMS to drive one... but not to its fullest potential only ma... so the best thing is still getting an amp... if on tight budget... a jalan pasar one will do already...

I still suggest that you get a power amp to power your comps. If you power it direct from the HU, the treble and the mid will be 'overshined' by your subs.

Now power a sub already have to use a high and low filter. haiz.... l know this would lead to a question "Why dont change a better HU?". Well, last few months my kancil have been broke into by thief. kanasai....they not only stole my HU but smash my window somemore in daytime (while l,m working).

Seriously? - I'm also driving a Myvi..
I'm using a Caliber 1600W AMP, paired to a Critical Mass component set on the front, my sides are fiber'd 6.5" and the stock speaker location sits my tweeter, therefore it looks like stock on the outside..
My sub is a JBL 125W 10" Sub, will it hurt my AMP to do so? - But so far my AMP seems ok and no shutdowns whatsoever, but kinda concerned.. Hehe..
Hope the sifu's can enlighten me =) Many thanks!

Never heard before sub will hurt the amp.... Only amp can abuse sub only. unless ur sub positive and negative wire touch each other when amp on..

hmm... mod the front door panel and lost the pocket? a bit "kesi" i think. possible to change to a set of 4" component and change the HU?
i think so far the best job among them would be the one along Jln ban Hock, near Hornbill there, but the price... abit pricey. so far they does good job, but they only do complete jobs, meaning to say setup your car at once.
i recall a shop that wanna let go a new Soundstream Xsc 2006 unit for Rm200, but i myself is hungering for that unit. still, if you're interested, i can try to ask which shop, coz my fren was at there setting his new component on monday.
