Go for AMD64 la since it's a desktop.. Cheaper and more bang for buck... the technology has longer working life anyway... RM2k is streching it...
CPU with mobo might set you back at least RM600. Add in a decent 15" LCD... add another RM500 maybe (check the pricelists in the mainpage) 17" LCDs cost a bit still. Most hover around the RM1k mark. Alternative? Flat screen CRTs. Samsungs work well here. And if gets worse if u want a graphics card. An el cheapo one will set you back RM200 minimum. A mainstream... RM500 if you're lucky. This is not counting mice, keyboard, NIC, modem, speakers, audio card, optical drives etc...
You might want to search on the web for entry-level rigs... www.hardwarezone.com and www.arstechnica.com might have something for you. Else google it. They will give u an idea of what brands & specs you should look for with the budget.
Unless you're looking for a PC to use for 1-2 years and then throw... best to keep an option for upgradeable components.
p.s. my prices above may be out as i've not kept touch with the PC component market lately. They're just ballpark figures from memory.

Aiyaya... RM2k cannot get LCD ler (at least RM800++) some more Intel based sure more expensive than AMD based. Better get a pricelist and check it yourself so u know wat's the price range, do a bit of research than u may get a nice PC customed by urself

Go for an AMD-based PC... These are as reliable and speedy as Intel's processors but at a fraction of the price!
Btw, are u in the PJ area? IF yes, i can introduce you to a friend who owns a computer shop in Atria DJ...

Your setup also depends if you can recycle your old pc's parts. Can save a little money there.
Techically possible for a sub 2k pc with a 15" lcd. Won't be a great pc nor great lcd..
