so i m collecting my 360 hopefully this saturday
i wanna ask sum question bout live

1) i m aware that somewhere when registering u need to set the region and then US has the most contents..
can someone guide me on this a little? which part is crucial for this regional stuff..
does the region thing affect the gameplay.. let say players matchmaking and stuff?

2) also.. that u can have to xbxlive account.. since silver is free.. so i guess i can create as many account as i want.. with different region.. is it true?

3) DOA4 lags.. is it true? and how about PGR3?

4) I want to buy Geometry wars.. do i really need a credit card to do this? any other options? i am aware that they do sell those card thing for xboxlive.. how about buying points?

5) last question.. is 512 mbps sufficient for xboxlive gaming?

p/s i realize somewhere this topic has already been discussed but.. i tried finding.. couldn't.. sorry

1) If you want the US Marketplace, you have to register your live account using American state and zipcode. You can still set your Gamertag to Singapore, just like I did. As for the matchmaking stuff, I dunno. From my experience, I've been matched with a good mix of Asian, European and North American gamers.

2) Yes, that's correct.

3) Yeah, the DOA4 lag can be quite bad sometimes but most of my PGR3 sessions have minimal or no lag at all.

4) If you don't want to use a credit card, you have to buy those MS Points cards which are not available locally yet.

5) I dunno, you have to check that with the 512kbps subscribers.

1) when you register a live from x360 change ur locale to US and register ur live under US address. region does not effect multiplayer gameplay
2)i guess so.. some ppl have 4 accounts.. for each main locale... us,uk,jp,sg
3)DOA no idea, PGR3 no lag .. as long as your NAT is OPEN
4) CC is the easiest.. else you can buy topup card from PA.
5)ya

DOA4 could be laggy on your 512 speed, so far playing with people in Klang Valley is fast and smooth bt playing with Kuantan dudes a bit lag. If Singaporeans host then its not laggy.

The only real reason the Kuantan dude lags is because he keeps downloading udang tongue.gif

But overall, DOA4 lag is not bad, especially after the newest update. Even with the Kuantan dude. The only problem is when the Kuantan dude fights against the Penang dude, their fight will take about 5 minutes laugh.gif

Geometry Wars cost 400 MS Points which is about US$5. As for the rest of the arcade games, save your money and download them from Yahoo games doh.gif laugh.gif

ahahah... ya when the kuantan dude fights the penang dude (me!), the kl dude will snap notty pics lol (check the doa4 thread).

i dont think there will be any difference between 1mbps and 512kbps streamyx, its about latency. and the slideshow battle between me and him happened only once or twice, we battled so many times already.

If you don't have a credit card.. well you'll have to beg Djinn to bring over the subscription cards, and point cards from Singapore. Just remember you'll need to register a Singapore live account then cause still can't confirm that the Points cards bought from Singapore work with US accounts!

Yes you need a valid Singapore address to register a Singapore account, and a US for a US one. Google is your friend... tongue.gif

Yes you do but I'd suggest you register under US instead due to the better Marketplace contents. Just google the White House address or something and use them biggrin.gif

I run 512 kbps and I have no problem even with my brother downloading stuff over LimeWire. Only if he downloads like 7 things at once it starts to slow down a bit wink.gif But yeah just try not to do anything else with the connection

OK maybe I can help you out. I can buy for you the MS Points and Live Subscription pre-paid thingy and then email to you the 25-digit code. You can then bank-in $ into my Malaysian bank account.

The pre-paid pack SHOULD work irrespective of where you registered your Live account. I bought a HK pre-paid pack although I registered a USA Live account.

Let me know.

My router is officially labelled Xbox Live Compatible on their website. It's a NetGear WGR614 if I'm not mistaken smile.gif

MK84 : I have a Gamefuel router. it's nifty when the line is ok. Still it works.. cause whenever I go Live the whole house's internet performance grinds to a halt... need to figure out what's the right priority to set.

Terra : First you need to make sure the points work on his Live account you're in HK right? wouldn't that mean he needs an asian account then? (HK, SG, etc. etc.) What's the lowest denomination of points you can buy?

It SHOULD work. I don't think it matters. MS just wants $$$ so I see no reason to region-lock it. Anyway, no worries - if it doesn't work I'll absorb the cost.

Just to re-cap, I bought a HK xbox360 unit, registered my Live account with my USA address, bought a HK prepaid pack (both MS Points and Live subscription), keyed-in the 25-digit code and it works.

Retail price:
Xbox Live Microsoft Points (1600 points) - HK$155
Xbox Live 1-month subscription - HK$59
Xbox Live 3-month subscription - HK$139

Terra : It's not a matter about MS just wants $$$, this is actual revenue to be shared with developer of the game so they must make sure it's sold at a similar level through out the world. Anyway good to hear that it works... maybe didn't work fo rme cause I was a Singapore account trying to use a US point card when SG hadn't launched yet.

Picked this up from xbox.com faq:

"Microsoft Points purchased from a retail store can only be applied to accounts registered to the same country where the retail store is located. The only exception is the 2100 point card (available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), which is universal throughout those regions."

Interesting ......

The Live cards should be no problem cause you're paying for the service offered by MS. The money doesn't go out to other people like MS Points so I guess that's why they're less strict about that.
