A lady bought my phone from mudah yesterday.
I sold my phone to her. she gave me all RM100 18 pcs.
When I try to deposit to the deposit machine the machine didnt accept it and I show to my friend to check it, he just found out its all fake RM100s with some of them with the same serial number. cry.gif
I made a report already to the police but not sure if the police can do anything.

This is the IMEI Number of the Phone 355056052515478 Samsung Galaxy Note 2 White Color SME Set
Warranty: November 20, 2012-November 19, 2013
Her Number: 018-238-9189

Just an FYI, it doesn't work that way unless you've installed an app on it to do so. Since you sold the phone, if it's new it won't have it and if it's used I'm sure you factory reset the phone, so it won't have the app there either.

Sorry to hear about your situation though sad.gif

Try sending a PM to the Lowyat's trade enforcer, Apis_LuaLua. He seems to be very very good at finding details of people.

However, finding out details of others through sales made outside of LYN, it might be a tad bit difficult.

On other note, this thread should have been posted at Trade Zone Helpdesk & Dispute Resolution Corner.

About 2 months ago, 1 news came in the newspaper where a businessmen try to deposit RM13k into his bank but the machine rejected. He then proceed to bank in the money via counter. Later the counter staff found that it is fake note and informed police.

Police found out that the businessmen got scammed by someone else on a similar syndicate (RM100 new fake notes) but until now, any action taken?

That's very unfortunate. Hope you'll find her or at least get some money back

Well, just to share my experience, I have bought and sold some items cod. I'll bring along a friend and discreetly take their picture and their car plate number. Sometimes I would upfront ask if I can take pic of their IC just to see their reaction

Inspect item thoroughly. If for items around 1k+ I'd usually sit down at mamak or kopitiam (preferably with wifi) and check everything out. It usually takes 20mins to 1 hour+. I'd inform him first I would do that. If the seller suddenly become anxious and wanna close the deal fast, usually something fishy going on.

When payment time, doesn't matter selling or buying, I would insist go nearby ATM cash deposit do payment. No cash transaction. This is to protect both buyer and seller from suspicion.

Finally, when transaction done, usually the other person relieved and let guard down, I'd suggest they pass me their business card in case wanna do more deals in future.

Usually in my case, it's not so much about the money, although it does hurt the pocket in the following weeks / months, but for me, the bitter experience of having taken advantage of really stays with me a long time and every time I recall the memory, really leaves me disgusted

It's unfortunate this incidents usually happen because there's quite a lot of honest traders I've met who are really excellent. These scammers really paint a bad image indirectly for them

I know someone who have been fake money victim during cod, also from mudah. Selling S3 for rm1700. Be cautious with below:
1. Normally a young women/girl
2. Usually they won't haggle at all about the price, they just agreed with yours
3. They usually prefer cod at anyplace where they wont have to waste much time eg petrol pump
4. In my friend case, she bring a baby along too avoid time wasting.
5. They wont even check/inspect the phone u r selling

Try to do this during cod:
1. Check out the serial num of the notes. In my friend's case, total amount rm1700, 17pcs rm100 note all same serial. That time rm100 new note just released by BNM, so he was not quite familiar with the money
2. They fake rm100 using low quality ink, easily fade when contact with water
3. Try to snap her car plate num, u have to do this. Usually driven by male driver

there must be some big syndicates going around, and printing fake money that identical to the real ones proves that. next time when contacted by a women to cod bring a fren along so that when u r talking to the girl, ask ur fren to count the money for u, if anything happens u hv a fren to back u up.

My best advice: AVOID RM100 NOTE !

I rather have fairly used up RM50 note, than sparkling new 100 note. Follow by 10 pcs per stack (RM500), easier to count.

-Pls take your time to count money, repeat twice. Why rush.
-Having a UV led light as extra & precaution.
-Have a buddy along if feel not safe.
-Meet at bright & moderate crowd place, not secluded area.

*
Probably the best trade enforcer on Low Yat. He deserves the mod status.
Sorry to hear about your case bro.
Can't imagine even if COD , still get scammed.

If no action from police, try to lodge a report in bank negara. I believe they will take more serious action since its new 100 note. At least they can give police some presure.

thanks for sharing, bro.

this is really bad. so now for COD it is better to do an online transfer instead of taking the cash. maybe we have to set up a rule for COD next time. must be at a cafe or mamak shop with WIFI and must use our own device for the online transaction. don't use their device, who knows they might have some software that can detect our banking details. tsk tsk. these scammers have many ways of stealing ppl's money. after fake notes, they'll think of something new.

hope u'll get some durian runtuh or bonus, bro. pity for the loss. nasty woman, hope she'll get her karma soon.

Quite easy to spot. I don't know if they have improved their technique, but I seen and gotten RM10 fakes and its very easy to identify. Paper is very smooth, too smooth in fact, lacking the real note texture. Color is also a dead giveaway.

mostly 018 number are on YES. but as i mentioned earlier, MOST PROBABLY its a YES... YES is harder to trace.. since they allowed self registration. last time u can put any ic number, fake names, etc... i had friends who are actually still have 5 YES number from a fake account. anyway he is not doing con job.. he is a ios and android developer.. need a legit phone number to test out an apps..

This is my continuation of the guy who call me....last night he message me again around 11pm asking if I can meet him but i didnt reply and when I check this morning my phone he message me again around 3am in the morning asking if I really want to sell my phone or not....this sign already that he is a scammer or maybe more than that.

Nowadays, a high end Multipurpose Laser Jet Printer can print RM100 note and looks almost 98% the same as the real one. Just that the texture of the paper different. Due to RM100 not a polymer note so very hard for us to differentiate the real and fake ones.

Plus those con man will print with different serial numbers too. So the safer way to do COD is the nearest bank and as him/her to bank in to your account. Do this if he/she take out more than 1 Rm100 notes to pay for the item.

Not every ATM dispense RM100 notes, i can assure you that but HSBC ATM does have special machine to dispense RM100 notes. I usually choose to withdraw with RM100 notes at HSBC's because sometimes i withdraw more than 3k at once. So my wallet wont get so thick after withdrawal.

Nowadays RM20 and RM10 also have fake notes...beware.

This is a very serious case. Did the color smear when u apply a bit of water on it? If yes, it is from ink jet technology printer. If not, u r in luck as all laser based color printer do imprint a unique code into each print which can be trace back to the manufacturer, sold to which country and etc. The print quality do look quite good so my best advice is to report to police. this is definitely a syndicate that is conning ppl around. Let the BNM to do the job. Thanks for sharing.

Just a suggestion.

Next time if COD. Make sure meet at ATM cash deposit machine. Request buyer to remit the cash into your account directly. If everything when smoothly, then pass the goods to them lorr..
Easy & Safe. Somemore, those places got CCTV... sure can ID them!!

Case close.

No problem dude, Eh whats your fb ? I wanna add haha .

One more thing

If you're selling, ask them transfer money in front of you at nearest atm, but if you're alone don't bring your atm card along. You may get mugged by an accomplice after he leaves

If you're buying, myself would prefer bring cash and deposit into his account at atm, or use if through atm, make sure the balance in that account is ngam2 plus + max rm 100

Some of my friends pernah kena, sell item, get money, on the way to atm to bank in, got mugged

To be safe, just bring a friend along, preferably someone who is cool and calm and won't panic easily

So many cons around, it's better to be prepared
