Hi guys,

planning to get this particular notebook model from HP, is roughly around USD 1295++ after fully customize.

i have some question that need opinion from you guys. I choose the best configuration as i want to use this notebook for the next 5 years although i seldom do gaming.

1) is the I7-3630Qm enough juice as a CPU ?

2) should i just choose a cheap configuration of HDD and switch it over to SSD when the storage capacity of SSD start to be mainstream for the 500GB ?

3) what is the different between HDD + cache and HDD hybrid ?

4) will the 2G GDDR5 650 good enough for gaming ?

not really into Lenovo, the consumer line up product is death ugly.

i did a comparision, both dv6t-7300 and y500 is pretty similar.

i rather paid a bit more getting a brand that i'm use to since my current HP dv6 serve me well since 2007.

lenovo is getting popular due to its popular mid-high range laptops. also, lenovo build quality and after sales service are getting great.

as what acid_rulez sifu said, your price, i can get a lenovo y500 and SLI it. one thing you should know that branding doesnt matters your laptop quality.

the reason i went for full customization is that i wanted a machine that can last me at leats 5 years and still won't be outdated that fast.

if i wanted a hardcore gaming notebook, i would had went for sager or illegear. Even Y500 SLI is no where near these 2 brand.

Lenovo is good for the corporate notebook, they still have a long way to convince people for the consumer product.

so, stop being a typical malaysian kind of attitude, if you are here to assist my question, i would be glad, if not just back off from posting.

TS, some answers that is still unanswered:

1. Yes, 3630QM is enough. Better dont go more than that because it wastes money

2. Not recommended because SSD can be killed by easily under heavy usage. Better stick with standard HDD if you are into gaming.

3. HDD cache uses the mSATA SSD as a cache storage to improve loading performance, and HDD hybrid is a traditional hard disk with SSD cache inside. The performance of hybrid HDD is slightly improved than traditional HDDs.

4. GT650M GDDR5 is enough to juice any modern games at medium-high settings.

u came here for opinion/advise am i right? laugh.gif

the reason i'm not recommending DV6-7000 series is because it was plaque with build quality issue, thermal issue which lead to throttling issue, BIOS issue, and not to mention BSODs.

Sauce: HP Pavilion Notebooks - Notebookreview

If gaming is not really your priority, take a look at Envy-M6.

Answer to your question:
1. Depend on the software you'll be using 5 years later.
2. Yes, SSD will totally improve your normal usage experience. 128GB is enough in my opinion, get Crucial m4/Intel 330/Samsung 840.
3. raymond already answered that.
4. Depend on what game u talking about, 1080p Far Cry 3? Low-Med setting. 1080p COD? Max.

Uhh.. an SSD is hard to kill unless you're using it for a server which constantly writing small chunk of data.

clear enough? also please take note, even though its an alienware or gaming laptops, you still can use it for other 3D works, not only gaming.
