Hmm apperently you can no longer use non-US based CCs to buy points for US Live accounts. However Gold membership renewal still works.

QUOTE(acougan @ Nov 23 2006, 04:02 PM)
so basically US accounts can rent a HD version (movies) for abt USD6 (24 hrs viewing) but get to keep the SD version (does not expire)? or did i read the press release wrong?
*
For movies (both SD & HD), you can "rent" the movie for 14 days, but once you played the movie, it'll expire in 24 hours.

For TV Series (both SD & HD), once you paid for it, it's yours forever.

Videos so far no region locking. But now you can't buy MS points with foreign CCs. Live subscription still works though.

Would be nice if you can buy the movies as well. But I guess they don't want to cripple the newly released HD-DVD addon.

IMHO it is really not Microsoft's fault if movies have region locking since all the major studios will want that region lock to keep the distribution of their movies in control.

This is similar to the PSP where the UMD games are region free but the UMD movies are not.

Yup, movie companies are gonna try their damndest to milk you of the money, basically this rental system is mainly for ppl who watch the movie once and never go for repeat viewings.

Xboxic just updated the story.

Update: Chris Paladino from Microsoft Community Team confirmed that downloads are being blocked from wrong regions but states they're not actually banning the illegal accounts. Like him, we are now "still waiting to hear back the official word."
