Guys, thinking of getting an Xbox 360 soon.

I'm currently staying at my campus' hostel and the connection isn't so good, so I'll probably stick on Silver membership and only upgrade to Gold during Semester break where I'll have decent broadband connection at home. I have a few questions about Xbox Live:

1. Is game patch download neccesary (if the game have one in the first place) if I just want to connect to Live so I can update my Gamerscore & Acheivement?

2. If the patch download a must, is it usually large in size?

3. Is there any difference between Silver and Gold's marketplace? I read from Xbox's website that Gold member have "Exclusive Xbox Live Marketplace downloads and content". Is the "exclusive" content so special that will make me want to go to Gold?
*
1. Game patches are optional most of the time. So let's say you sign onto your Silver account, boot up GRAW fresh from the case (haven't played yet at all), when the game boots it will say something like "A new update is available for this game" and you have the option to either "Update Now" or "Update Later". I would recommend you download all game patches wink.gif

2. Not really. Most updates take around 5 - 10 minutes max. Well at least for me. I run on 512kbps. Usually 5 minutes is all you need smile.gif So far I've noticed that the Dashboard update takes the most time to download. Maybe I was just unlucky that day but even then it only took 10 minutes

3. Not much that I've noticed. Probably Gold get stuff a bit earlier so yeah smile.gif

Eh, do we need to be gold member to use MS Points? I read at IGN that in Xbox Live Arcade, Silver Member can only download demo of Live Arcade game, and only Gold Member can purchase full version.

Does this means Silver Member can't use MS Points?

Silver Members can use MS Points. Don't know about the Arcade Game thing though. I've never tried buying an Arcade Game with my Silver Account

hey mobi hows prey???
*
Well if you ask me it's a slightly more than average FPS. Gameplay-wise it's pretty cool. Prey sets itself apart from other FPSs by having things such as "SpiritWalking", "DeathWalk", Gravity manipulation and such. However, the game feels somewhat straight forward. I mean, you can't get stuck in Prey. If you get stuck most likely you missed something and most of the time backtracking will get you thru. There are several puzzles to be solved in Prey, but none are too challenging.

Overall I personally feel that Prey is also a pretty easy FPS. You don't really die in this game, you just go to DeathWalk then you can just respawn where you died and you don't lose your weapons or any ammo. As for Multiplayer, I haven't really tried that out yet. I'll give you full review sometime in the near future wink.gif And if you liked Doom 3, you should enjoy Prey. However Prey does not have the creep-factor that Doom 3 has. Overall I would recommend Prey to those who like shooters

Question here. My University is going to have a week off for mid-trimester break next week, and if everything went as I've planned, I'll get my own Xbox 360 next week.

The question is, since I don't have an internet connection at my hometown, can I create an offline profile on my Xbox 360, and then convert / merge it with my Xbox Live Gamertag profile once I have the internet connection back?  unsure.gif

You should be able to. Check around Xbox.Com for a guide wink.gif

Can you turn the blood off? As much as I like chainsawing and dismembering zombies and turning them into pools of blood, I'd rather not have my mom come in and see a massacre on screen laugh.gif

Well old games will eventually get cut off. It's not EA being evil. It's a matter of numbers. As the number of players decrease it's more likely for the service to get cut off. If there's still a high number of players then the service will continue until it declines. Halo 2 for example, still maintains a very high number of players. Up to now Halo 2's Multiplayer is still being improved and strongly supported by Bungie and Xbox Live.

It's a matter of numbers.

A question here. Can I use another person's credit card to buy MS Points or Gold subcription from Marketplace?

Want to buy some stuff from Marketpalace but I don't have credit card, thinking of borrowing my mom's credit card but afraid it'll get rejected because credit card owner's name is different than Xbox Live account holder's name.

You can take a shot at it. It should be fine.

Hahaha sorry laugh.gif

As a general tip, avoid pulling out the guide during play. Make sure nothing intense is happening in the background wink.gif I usually pause the game first then pull out the guide to see what's up

Edit:

Just now I played Pac-Man on my XBLA and suddenly I was signed out from Live (due to bad connection). The LED on the modem / router is turned of indicating there's no connection, and it's a problem on the ISP's side.

I said to myself, "Never mind, I'll check the connection after I beat my previous high-score", and I did beat my previous high score. Excited, I try to re-connect to Live to upload my High Score to the leader board, I can't. The connection is still turned off. When I finally get to reconnect, the game won't upload my high score. cry.gif

I'm furious since I can play Uno offline, and can upload the high score once I re-connect to Xbox Live. Why can't Pac-Man do the same?  mad.gif
*
Thank you Streamyx mad.gif A similar thing happened to me. I was playing Halo 2 then suddenly, "You are experiencing network problems". I look at my router and the Connection LED was flashing orange which indicated no connection was present. It had been fine for about a week then suddenly it snapped vmad.gif
