QUOTE(cherroy @ Feb 22 2013, 02:38 PM) We may have extra billions of RM outflow due to min wages. If that is the case, is it the best time to purge all the foreign workers awayThe one most beneficier is foreign worker, getting payrise of Rm100-200 at least. We have estimated 3 million foreign worker. So with min wages extra Rm600 million need to be paid to foreign worker. Most foreign workers will send back their wages to their homeland one, which the money may not be consumed locally at all, no benefit to the overall local economy. End result of poor implementation, general public face inflation wave, while foreign workers happily sending more money home, while some SME that labour cost consist large part of operation cost one may need to close down. their number is too large and it makes me feel uncomfortable / safe staying in Malaysia. |

QUOTE(foofoosasa @ Feb 23 2013, 09:09 AM) For 'legal' FWEmployer have to pay for their levy charges and accomodation Not a small sum if you have hundreds of them in your company. Thats why i 'hope' with this minimum wages thingy, employers will consider to cease hiring FW. |

QUOTE(cherroy @ Feb 23 2013, 10:43 AM) Can, provided there is local (at least 2-3 million in number) want to do below job Sad but true1. Harvest palm oil in plantation 2. Construction 3. Janitor, cleaner, waiter/waitress 4. Operators in manufacturing. If not you see standstill economy, nobody collect garbage, nobody harvest the palm oil, palm oil mill need to standstill, condo with no cleaner, no new house can be built etc. If cease hiring FW, we may see severe recession across. We see dirty condo, shopping mall around. Stock market may plunge as well, as manufacturing, construction standstill, so no job for air-cond room office executive, no job, then people can't buy house/car resulted in financial company cannot make a loan etc. Don't underestimate the contribution of FW in the economy. We are talking about 2-3 million people who are productive to the whole economy. Simply chasing them away without proper backup plan, means 2-3 millions of workforce that contribute to GDP is being chased away. Local young people rather choose easy + low pay jobs. Even some hard-working FW earn more than them. |

QUOTE(mopster @ Mar 6 2013, 12:45 AM) hopefully this Sulu thing will end soon and end for good... This Sulu thing really worries me.Worst case scenario is they go Guerilla... every month send a few suicide gunners to Sabah... then Sabah will really be in chaos.... just curious... can this intrusion thingy be a valid reason to push GE past the term date ? eg end of 2013 ?? not only that.. if they hide in oil palm estates then planters will have trouble carrying out their business.. especially KLK & Willmar which are already affected @ Lahad Datu Although it happens in Sabah, who knows whether they will retaliate in West Malaysia especially in KL. |

QUOTE(gark @ Mar 18 2013, 09:57 AM) Bank run on weak banks in Greece, Ireland, Spain and Italy will start today when the banks open. Since these banks is on fractional reserve, the bank runs could lead to more bankrupt banks, since they are not able to pay out the money and then needing more bailout and more depositor's money will be seized. 1/2 of Cyprus bank account owners are foreigner mainly from Russia. And the best thing is that the deposits are guaranteed by government.. but now no longer. Dont worry, Mario Draghi will save the day This is similar to the great American bank run in 1930's, where depositors are desperate to take out their money from the bank, resulting in 100's of bank bankruptcy, and lots of people lost their savings. So this little decision on Cyprus will have a big effect on the world, and I think Germany has gone nuts with this decision... not surprised they will reverse it when all the big banks in Europe start falling like dominoes. Merkel should go after the bondholders for haircut rather than the innocent depositors. But major bondholders are other banks in Europe.. Avoid European financials at all cost! Market opening...Euro drop 1.1% against USD and 2.2% against Yen... |
