8.5 width is a bit too wide for 225 tires. You'll have no more protection of the rims lips. For 225 tires, better use no more than 8 inch width. If you want to use 8.5, then minimal use 235 tires. I myself use 245 for 8.5 width, looks just nice and still offers good protection for the rims.

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Feb 8 2013, 12:35 AM) Noted guys, thank you very much for the input! I'm just curious how will the wheel (225 on a 8.5JJ) looks like lol The tire will start to get stretch just a bit/the sidewall is already quite straight or even inward a bit compared with the rim lip. If your tires have some extra rubber special protection for rim lip, then might still be ok.

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Feb 11 2013, 01:46 PM) Inward? Wouldn't the sidewall be pulled outward as the rim is too wide? Yeah I mean that.

QUOTE(awyongcarl @ Feb 19 2013, 12:00 PM) Ahh after doing a little bit more reading I found the terms that I have been looking for to ask lol.. It's something called "Tyre stretching". So those "balloon-ish" look wheel is due to the very skinny tyre on a very large width (jj) wheel.. I've got to ask, is 215/40/R17 on a 17x8JJ wheel considered as stretched? (minimal or mildly stretched?) 215 on 8' wide is not quite stretch yet but already at the border/starting to stretch, will be very even between the tire and rim and almost no protection anymore of the rim lip. For 215 tire, better use 7.5' or 7' rims. For 8' rims still better to use 225 minimum.

Hehehe donuting already dude! If not for the add-on fender extension, it would be really out of the fenders as well.
Agree, it's still a bit high but if lowered then the tires will kiss the fenders. Very nice looking car though. Must be pretty fast too ha?
