What's the best prepaid internet in Singapore? as i'm going there for a couple of days for a business trip. notworthy.gif

Update :

Okay guys. An update as i'm in singapore now using singtel. Using the unlimited 3 days pass for SGD18. Forgot to ask the CS when buying is it really unlimited or got quota, which i think got. Oh well.

Here's my speedtest using e5756 mifi :-

user posted image

It's ok considering this is peak time (9.30pm).

Edit : Added another speedtest done at 12am/1am :-

Quite similar even on non peak time. Maybe the speeds are capped?

Weird though as i'm only getting a grade D. Maybe it's for singapore as i think that most users here use fiber broadband 100mbps lol. Also evident as the speedtest shows that i'm slower than 70% sweat.gif

Also, for some reason i cannot use other dns such as opendns and i'll have to use singtel's dns (default) to get it to connect.

Ok, so i did some googling and found out that the price for 3 days unlimited internet is SGD18. This is the same price for singtel, starhub and m1. States that the speed is up to 7.2mbps (same for all 3).

Now the question is, which one of those 3 providers are the best? in terms of stability.

Starhub prepaid was terrible and I ditched it about 6 months ago. I'm using Singtel prepaid now and it has been reasonably stable. Real world speeds are around 2Mbps.

Thanks for the advice notworthy.gif

How about m1? have you tried it?

best is singtel prepaid,

u might want to skip M1 and starhub prepaid,.   notworthy.gif

in certain congested area like Orchard, u can tell Singtel is significantly better than M1 or starhub  notworthy.gif
*
Excellent advice notworthy.gif

Looks like singtel it is, as i'll be staying in Orchard.

Do you know if it actually supports dc-hspa? as i'll bringing my mifi. I doubt it though as it states on the website up to 7.2mbps only, for all 3 providers.

if u are in crowded area, dont expect too high,. LOL,.

even the 4G in singtel also have limited slot,. if the 4G slot is full, then will still back to 3G,

so what a LOL,.  biggrin.gif
*
That's a weird way to use 4g. Got limited slot. Maybe Malaysia will follow this footsteps? hmm.gif

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Feb 7 2013, 07:04 AM)
I did a few tests when I was bored and got 2Mbps each time.
*
Is that using a dc hspa supported phone/modem? It's not that high compared to our dc hspa speeds here. hmm.gif

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Feb 7 2013, 07:04 AM)
My wife uses M1 postpaid and hasn't complained about it. It seemed to work every time my Starhub prepaid didn't smile.gif
*
So from judging from the advice given here, best is singtel > m1 > starhub notworthy.gif

I don't think it supports DC HSPA. Running speed test with my phone on Maxis gets me around 8Mbps.
*
About the same if i dl using a hspa+ modem with maxis (average 2-8mbps). But with dc hspa modem, can get around double that (average usually around 4-15mbps).

According to chuahcs, singtel prepaid supports dc hspa, so we'll see how fast it's speed can go notworthy.gif

Malaysia vs Singapore (dc hspa test lol) icon_rolleyes.gif

it upload is kinda low
if not mistaken that affect the ranking (A/B/C/D)

Could be. I think that singtel caps the speed though but it's pretty consistent throughout the whole day. Here's another speedtest at 7pm :-

It's always around the same speed.

well, it is much better then in malaysia d
for a prepaid  whistling.gif

There are good options in Malaysia such as u mobile which gives you around 10-20+mbps dl for prepaid and maxis (prepaid) also can give around the same with the modem i'm using. So i think that Malaysia's mobile broadband does give better speeds, even for prepaid. However, singtel singapore does seem more consistent, even though the speeds are lower. sweat.gif

Starhub is much cheaper. $7 gets access for 7 days (1gb) with a prepaid sim. The service isn't great but seems a lot better now than last time. Singtel is better but way more expensive.

Hello

Singtel would be the best selection comparing to Starhub and M1 in terms of coverage.
You can get a prepaid pack for $18, preloaded with $15 credit.
You can subscribe to Mobile Internet for $7 for 7days with 1GB data allowance.
Typical downlink speeds will be around 2 to 4Mbps.

Hope that helps smile.gif

Regards

I actually got singtel's prepaid broadband 3 days unlimited pass for sgd18 since i'll be in singapore for only 3 days. I went to 2 singtel outlets to actually get the prepaid broadband (not normal prepaid), so maybe that's why i'm getting dl speeds of 7mbps instead of 2-4mbps. All 3 mobile operators (singtel, m1 and starhub) offer 3 days prepaid broadband for the same price.

Just for anyone's info, the singtel prepaid broadband can only subscribe in singtel outlet in bugis junction, as i went to another singtel outlet and they asked me to get it there. sweat.gif

Not really. U mobile can get high speeds in most of klang valley and maxis can also get in kampung area for dc-hspa speeds icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi

Noted,

Maybe you are getting the maximum for your prepaid broadband already as they mention 7.2Mbps is the maximum downlink speed right?

And they could be throttling their speed for mobile internet wink.gif

Regards
*
Yup, i suspect that they capped the speed at 7.2mbps as stated on their page for prepaid broadband. I probably hoped for higher speeds or speeds beating malaysia's with all the hype singapore is getting.

Sorry for digging the old thread, just to update some infos sweat.gif
Well if anyone wish to use Prepaid Broadband on SGP, currently the best one is M1 prepaid broadband if you need unlimited quota(18dollar for 5 days, no daily quota and BT throttling bulls**t), max achivable speed is 7.2mbps if you on HSPA+ network, recommended modem for their broadband are E5331 or E5151, it may not work on 4G modem unless you force it on 3G mode.
Their Prepaid Card aint bad either, first 4G prepaid mobile on Singapore(3GB for 50 days, for 30 dollar).

Singtel prepaid do not offer unlimted quota anymore, thier prepaid broadband are much more expensive, which i dont see any point of this plan, 35dollar for 14GB, vs M1 28dollar unlimited, same speed sweat.gif
*
Ya, i've heard bout M1 prepaid can use 4g, which is great! Will go for that plan when i go there again. Too bad not anytime soon. sad.gif

As for singtel's 3 days unlimited pass, it still shows on their website :- https://info.singtel.com/personal/communica...epaid-data-plan

Maybe not updated? Also, the only place to get that plan is at bugis junction. I had to go around in circles in Singapore to get that plan doh.gif

was stuck on 2mbps most of the time no matter what router/modem i used, now on my E355 i suddenly get true 7.2mbps speed rclxms.gif

They are just upgraded their prepaid mobile from 3G to 4G, not sure if it's the same plan im using, i have not tested on my E3276 yet  brows.gif

Yup, i was also getting top speeds of 7mbps back in March on Singtel, using their 3 day internet plan. I had also updated on my first post. notworthy.gif

Hi gaise, Latest Singtel prepaid 4G speed test, their customer service officer told me i can use it with 14GB data plan  too cool2.gif
user posted image
3G speed is around 15mbps, i guess it's DC-HSPA. btw i ran 3 speed test, it ate me almost 300MB of data doh.gif  sweat.gif

FYI: if any of you gaise wanna use this 4G prepaid card on phone or modem, remember the APN is hicard, the default APN for Singtel prepaid is "internet" which will cause the data connection fail if your phone or modem is default to 4G network.

*
Quite good. Too bad i couldn't test it back then as i didn't have a 4g modem. I do have one now and here's the speedtest on malaysia's 4g :- http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3108728098

Not as good as Singtels though.
