course like geophysic have a lot of field trips, need to do hard work under hot sun.
After graduate, can work in geotechnical firm (construction) or oil & gas industry. Recently (this 1-2 years) need lot of fresh graduate in oil & gas industry, after that, i cant predict.
In consturction site, most of the working place are in jungle (to explo new place to develop), roadsite etc...
Have job oppurtunity offer for fresh graduate, but depends on you want to work or not.
Most of the graduate work in other field after graduation, because hard/less oppurtunity to get in oil & gas industry. And many ppl claim that construction are too tough...
If you are a girl, i recommend you not to take.

forrest; not just that..geophysic field isnt easy especially Oil and gas ... summore it isnt under hot sun but under big project pressure in search of new oil; if i`m in that situation i prefer taking geology as starting point of working...

i mean "hot sun" is in construction field.
In malaysia, you only sit in a boat to do the geophysic survey (oil n gas), because the oil n gas in malaysia only occur inside the seabed, but some country/place like Middle East, Africa... you cannot escape from hot sun...and sands storm... in the middle of desert... brother.
For big project, i think only less ppl have to oppurtunity to do the seismic interpretation... most of them will only work for data gathering and processing for the first few years before they have the skill to enter interpretation site... processing is much easier than interpretation...
The oil n gas companies President, General manager.... headache to bid for new place to search for oil, not us. You dont have "real pressure" to search oil before you have more than 10 years experience in this industry

thank u for your concern to this topic... goephysic and geology is quite same right?? actually, i'm also interested in geology but i didn't really know what is the course is all about. same as geophysic but the main reason why i want to study that field because i love earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamies and all of that stuff.. i also love weather and i'm always praying for the bad weather.

there are relationship between geophysic and geology, but not the exactly same.
Geology study about all type of rocks, minerals, paleontology(fossil), environment, earth structure, geochemistry (chemistry tht related to rock nmineral), geophysic(brief) ....etc

Geophysics - study about type of waves, earth structure, technique to gather data of the earth structure, geology(in brief)....etc...

Working as a geologist or gephysicist is not an easy job. . Now you love earthquake, volcono.... but this is different when you go to field trip (part of course) and working (not oil n gas industry). This is why you love bad weather, because this is what you watch from TV, you watch too much disaster movie and maybe you admire the hero inside the movie. If you have the oppurtunity to feel earthquake, you will feel that you will go to hell, that time ask yourself still like bad weather/disaster or not haha rclxms.gif Luckily malaysia dun have any disaster, juz some flood... Disaster can cause a lot of death...extinction of some spesies and this include human being...

And you said you are "praying for the bad weather", omg doh.gif what kind of thinking doh.gif

Before the oil price rise, geology and geophysics are dump course at university, but it become hotter this 1-2 years, impact of the high oil price. Currently oil n gas need a lot of expert in this area, but most of the empty places will be fill up on this 1-2 years, if you think you have the oppurtunity to join oil n gas company after graduation then go ahead. If joining oil n gas industry is not your primary target, and you willing to work at construction field, then you can enter this course. You will headche/regret (to choose this course) when you jobless after graduation. YOu judge it yourself smile.gif
