If its on a Mitsubishi air cond, then its the active carbon deodoriser filter. Supposed to be replaced every 1 or 2 years, but so far we just wash and put it back. Been doing that for few years, the reason the filter is there is to remove air borne smell and make your AC blow fresh odourless air
