Abdulraheem scores double for Iraq


Dubai: AFC Youth Player of the Year 2012 Mohannad Abdulraheem Karrar scored two goals as Iraq eased past Malaysia 3-0 ahead of their Group C AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers match against Indonesia on Wednesday.

The 2007 Asian Cup champions also have three-time Asian Cup champions Saudi Arabia and China in Group C. The 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup champions Malaysia face Qatar on Wednesday. They have Bahrain and Yemen as other sides in Group D.

Duhok striker Abdulraheem, who was the most valuable player of the tournament in the recently concluded AFC U-19 Championship held in the United Arab Emirates, once again showed his class with the senior side by scoring the first two goals for Iraq.

Also joining Abdulraheem on the scoresheet was Mustafa Nadhim Jari for the Hakeem Shakir’s side who had finished runners up in recently concluded West Asian Football Federation Championship 2012 and Gulf Cup 2013.

Ajami’s brace secure Bahrain win
Manama: Midfielder Mahmood Al Ajami scored a brace as Bahrain prepared their upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2015 Group D clash against Yemen with a convincing 3-1 win over Singapore on Friday.

Bahrain will take on Yemen in Sharjah at the Sharjah Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday while Singapore have a difficult away tie against Jordan on the same day in Group A.

Ajami opened Bahrain’s lead in the 20th minute and the semi-finalists and the host of recently concluded Gulf Cup 2013 added their second after Ajami completed his brace in the 56th minute.

Baharudin pulled one back for Singapore playing first official match with interim coach V Sundaram but Bahrain wrapped up the comfortable night after Mohammed Duaij scored the team’s third of the evening in the 85th minute.
