Yeah it can correct distortion as well. Quite many profiles there but not all.

thx ! smile.gif hmm btw... for a lens.. if the optics and motor's fine.. just minor drop off in the gold wording.. will the price drop a lot? thinking of getting a 85mm f1.8G @ rm1k... but gold wordings abit discoloured.. not majorly...
for those with fine gold wordings ranged from rm1050~rm1150... ur opinion?  icon_question.gif din buy 2nd hand lens bfore @@

Depend on the buyer. Certain buyer don't mind cosmetic while some will. For RM50 more, better get the one which is better cosmetically as you can sell it later at a better price later.

btw any idea how to check and purchase a 2nd hand lens?

1) Check front and back elements. ( Method : use light reflect here there... need magnifier or anything ? )
2) Check focusing ( Speed? sound? accuracy? )
3) Check image from shots? ( but how to? @@ )
4) Check exterior...

^ correct?

Before doing any of that, ask the seller for the serial number. Call up Nikon to see if there's any prior repair done to the lens or anything.

1.) Bring a torchlight (bright white light) to check for FUNGUS and dust when open the aperture blade.
2.) Smooth mechanical function of the aperture blade (open and close smoothly), no grease marks/leakages
3.) Check focus ring, smooth when turning or not.
4.) Yeah, front and back elements coating (got scratch or not)
5.) Focusing mechanism (sound, accuracy)
6.) Check images from shots (check for backfocusing, observe can focus accurately on the subject that you point with focus point, increase/decrease aperture to check bokeh/ depth of field)
7.) Check exterior (any dented part around metal mounting and lens body, metal connector pins etc)
8.) Request purchasing receipt and most importantly warranty card (looks like a nikon paper with serial code)

Don't hesitate anymore, good deals wait for no man...if you are okay with topping up RM50 for a better gold wording (which is more presentable, at lease can know owner has taken good care of it)

Sharing some experience from newbie. Cheers icon_rolleyes.gif

Wow, the gold words can fade so easily? Owner must be holding there a lot, or poor quality ._.

If not mistaken, that whole part can be replaced by Nikon. But price quite expensive, definitely more than RM50.

Warranty slip is preferable since it is like IC card for the lens itself.you won't know whether the lens is from oversea, stolen item, used item for few times or not. However, all depend on your justification.

Yes it is little bit of fading if not mistaken. Or else it is too dark which is insufficient to make the make the wording shine.

i always suspect ppl who sell lenses basically by itself only.
considering the 85mm 1.8G only came out in malaysia about 6-7 months ago...there is no real reason to *lose* everything else.

hmm.. means resale value will be there still even without receipt la?
btw checked with the nikon centre.. the serial number not in record, means this grey lens / from other country... not repaired before... without receipt and warranty card also can get repairing from nikon service centre Malaysia...
but from his profile... saw him selling a D3000 with box oso lah, and a wide angle tolkina...
