w00t somehow i manage to get a room for me n my girl in Langkawi for this coming weekend. biggrin.gif

was undecided abt either drive there or take bus. well after some thought it seem that drive there might b a better option for me. the cost looks like its not that much higher than take bus. n by driving i may still get to hang around the island much longer after i check out from the hotel. plus we could stop by some places like Penang for a meal or what. big cons is that it might b very tiring.

so any1 hav any opinions ? biggrin.gif

IMO if ur trip is to relax, its recommended taking public transportation. or u would end up returning back more tired than before u go. if urs a shopping trip, then driving is the way to go. hm are u going to ferry ur car there? or rent there?
*
well its my 1st time there though, so it wil b more like sightseeing + shopping. biggrin.gif

i know it will b tiring, but since i can rotate the driving wif my gf it shouldn't b that hard. n ya we'll go n rent a car there. ferry our car there gonna cost a lot, isn't it ?

i juz went there with my gf on laz saturday, n back on monday... well its a kinda great trip, n i enjoy it. biggrin.gif

i m sharing my trip here, hope it can b useful to those who planning to go there for the 1st time. tongue.gif

i started off driving from KL by 2 something am n reach Kuala Kedah by around 8 something morning. its a long but easy drive, u juz hav to keep going for the direction of Ipoh, Penang, Alor Setar n eventually u'll see the 'Kuala Kedah' signboard. the toll fee cost me rm50++ 1 way. sweat.gif

juz like what some forummers mentioned b4, right after u reach the jetty area, there will b many locals riding on bike come n ask u to follow them for parking. well i parked my car inside a school right opposite of the jetty building... n it only cost me rm8 per nite. i park there from saturday til monday, the total is juz rm16 (2 nite). parking outside with no guard nor roof gonna cost rm15 instead. u wouldn't miss the school as its by the main road. it call sekolah Haji something... tongue.gif

there will a lot of those agents making offer of car rental, hotels, trips, etc outside the jetty building. i eventually got a deal of Iswara for rm140. if u get the deal b4 u reach Langkawi, u'll b given a number to call when u get there, so there's no worry abt it.

btw if u looking for trip of island hopping or snokeling, try an agency called Deejay travel. they do offer lower price (island hopping rm35 while the others rm45 or 40), n the best thing is that u can make the booking by paying a deposit 1st. if u happen to didnt go for the trip, they can refund in full amount afterward. i dont know if there any other agency that do so too though. u'll find them in the Kuala Kedah jetty.

the journey of ferry to Langkawi is worse than driving for 6 hours. the seat gap is damn small that even someone of my height (1.77m) will hav hard time to rest ur legs properly. n u hav to tahan for more than 1 n a half hour. rclxub.gif

i stayed in Langkasuka Beach Resort. personally its a not bad hotel for me. the room is big n clean, with the only complaint is that the floor is not carpet. tongue.gif

user posted image

the private beach is so-so only. the sand isn't even soft n strangely, there's no wave at all for the water.

user posted image

n the buffet breakfast there is pretty ordinary. location wise its ok, very near to Hotel Helang n Airport, n is easily accesible to other places since most probably u got a car anyway.

here's the places that i been to :

- Makam Mahsuri
nothing much there, juz a small muzium that tel the story of Mahsuri, the tomb itself, n some performance of traditional malay music. its ok if its ur 1st time.

user posted image

the padi field beside the Makam Mahsuri.

- UnderwaterWorld
frankly speaking, this is 1 hell of a waste of money. it gonna cost u rm28, n there's nothing much to see, except some large square tanks with some big fishes, n some penguin. definitely no match for the 1 in Sentosa n KLCC. personally i wouldn't recommend it at all.

- Galeria Perdana
i not sure is this 1 need to pay for entry or not, coz i 'accidentally' sneak in thru the exit door. tongue.gif nothing much to see also. it juz showcase some gifts n collections of Mahatir. it located kinda far from town, so unless ur really hav time to spare, i wouldn't recommend it.

user posted image

here's the only thing that really interested me. tongue.gif

user posted image

- Langkawi Cable Car
this 1 is a must for me. the view around the island at the top is awesome. great for photo taking too. too bad when i was there it rain heavily til the visibility was kinda low. doh.gif rm15 if u got MyKad.

user posted image
user posted image

- Pantai Cenang
the most happening beach there. its kinda like Batu Ferringhi with 1 long road n some hotels, resorts, restaurants, shops n stalls beside. u'll find plenty of things to eat here. next time i gonna stay there. biggrin.gif the beach itself is not bad.

- Pantai Tengah
juz right at the end of the road of Pantai Cenang, this gotta b the finest beach i been to there. soft sand n clean water, perfect for get urself wet. biggrin.gif

user posted image
user posted image

- Tanjung Rhu
another good beach. but its kinda far away. there some stalls that sell foods n provide trip services.

- Eagle Square
another must lah of coz. i mean its like the Merlion of Singapore. how can u go there n not taking picture with it ?! biggrin.gif right beside the jetty, juz a short walk. definitely wouldn't b able to miss it if ur travel to Langkawi by ferry.

user posted image

there still some places that i didnt been to coz of heavy rain... damn. doh.gif

for place to eat, i would recommend Rootian Restaurant in Kuah town (non-halal though i guess). its cheap n nice, only rm30 for 3 dishes for 2 of us. it located right at the center of the town, walk around n u'll find it. there are plenty of malay restaurant there too, n in Pantai Cenang area.

as for shopping, i find that sports goods are juz more or less same with KL. the only thing that worth the buy is of coz all those alcohol, cigratte, n chocolate. 1 pack of 6 can Carlsberg cost less than rm10 there.

for me Langkawi is really a nice place. i'm looking forward to visit there again in future. biggrin.gif

p/s : sorry for the long post. biggrin.gif

Awana is a nice hotel but no beach lol.

try some 3rd party website to book. most of the time they provide cheaper rates.

i believe Lanai Beach n Federal Villa are cheaper than Holiday Villa, below rm200. all of them are in the same area.

well dont get me wrong, i hav no problem to stay in Langkasuka again if i gonna visit Langkawi next time. juz that its beach is quite a disappointment. the rest like room, location, services, etc are good enuf. u should read my 'review' before this. biggrin.gif

i think the car rental price u quote there is way too expensive. 2 weeks ago i went there i got an Iswara 3d2n (around 50 hours) for rm140. n its during holiday period too.

n personally i would seriously advice u not to go to the Underwater World. utter waste of money. doh.gif

i tot MaliBest is the best for you cos you said you wanted a chalet tongue.gif

mandysu, thanks for the review so i think i'll skip Under Water World after all the comments about it here.

What the attraction in Oriental Village?
*
wtf is all those thing abt me ? biggrin.gif

Oriental Village is where the cable car station is, as well as the Geopark hotel. the village itself hav nothing much to see actually. juz some shops n restaurants there, n some scene for u to take photo.

oh btw there's a 'Dang Wangi' with KL postcode roadsign there. i wonder whose idea it is to put it there. biggrin.gif
